NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City police officer was shot and killed Monday during a traffic stop, the city’s mayor said. It marked the first slaying of an NYPD officer in two years.
“We lost one of our sons today and it is extremely painful. It is extremely painful,” Mayor Eric Adams said, addressing reporters at a hospital in Queens.
The shooting happened just before 5:50 p.m. in the Far Rockaway section of Queens, police said. Officer Jonathan Diller and his partner were part of the NYPD Community Response Team and were conducting a traffic stop at the time.
As they approached the vehicle, the suspect pointed a gun toward the officers and shot Diller beneath his bullet-proof vest, said Police Commissioner Edward Caban, who identified the slain officer on X, formerly known as Twitter. He said Diller’s partner returned fire and shot one of the people in the vehicle, who was taken to an area hospital.

No description of the perpetrators. I wonder who it could be.
The suspect was previously arrested in April 2023 on a GUN charge?
The longer the media blackout, the more certain you can be about who he isn’t (i.e. a white male).
I missed that. I know he was released from prison in 2021 after serving 5 years. I first heard about this on Rudy Guiliani’s podcast earlier this evening. Details are still pretty sparce.
Far Rockaway is mostly ghetto minority. Not a safe place to go at night, for sure. Or most other times, come to think of it. RIP, officer.
He looka lika NEEEEGRO man.
Dirty AP writers said it was the first cop killed in two years. That’s supposed to make us good people feel shy about complaining. Not working with me.
Could have said “part of the wave of increased fear inducing violence in New York that has become an issue.”
Line of Duty Death ping.
FReepmail me to be added to the Line of Duty Death ping list.
You’ve already answered your own question. Coulter rule.

Had it been misdemeanor parading, he’d still be in jail for 15 more years.

Condolences to the officer’s family.
No one should be serving as a cop in NYC. If you are, leave now. Tell anyone in rural America why you left and you will be helped. Your skills are needed where police are appreciated as long as they adhere to constitutional rights.
