Companies are struggling to operate as Gen Z enters the workforce at higher rates, and a growing majority of employers say the younger generation is toxic for their business.
That's the latest from a new Freedom Economy Index report conducted by PublicSquare and RedBalloon this month. In the survey, 68 percent of small business owners said Gen Zers were the "least reliable" of all their employees. And 71 percent said these younger workers were the most likely to have a workplace mental health issue.
One of the surveyed employers spoke of Gen Z's "absolute delusion, complete lack of common sense, and zero critical reasoning or basic analytical skills."
The criticism for Gen Z workers was in full force, as less than 4 percent said Gen Z was the generation that most aligns with their workplace culture, and 62 percent said Gen Z was the most likely to create division and toxicity in the workplace.
Another employer noted the generation's tendency for "expecting promotions for simply showing up every day."
The toxicity could even lead to company lawsuits, as 57 percent said Gen Z run the most risk of creating a workplace lawsuit.
Dan Space, an HR consultant who runs DanFromHR.com, said since the study reflects the feelings of small business owners, it could be skewed. These types of businesses often do not pay well or offer a high-quality company culture, he said, and Gen Z tends to look for those in any type of role or career they take on, he said.
"Gen Z is one of the most informed, confident and no BS generation because they saw what happened to the millennials before them," Space told Newsweek.
"Being told to go to college to get a great job..."

You mean, I’ll laugh at Uncle George’s endless repetitive jokes throughout eternity ... and LIKE IT? :)
“Florida is 51.1% Non-Hispanic White according to 2021 census. How did Trump win? Texas is 39.3% non-Hispanic white. How did Trump win?”
I don’t know about Texas, but the non-Hispanics in FL are hugely Cuban. Cubans, in general, are very conservative.
They are getting plenty of steps in.
CAN?
We usually DO!
Oh, they probably READ them.
I wonder if there’s a correlation between the Z-ers being less religious, and having a worse work ethic.
And they totally awesome after 30 years when the fat and ugly gene takes over. A real Picasso canvas. /s
GMTA!!!
No truer words have been spoken.
We have to work with that going forward.
We have to bring them along, not bash them. Deep down, they are looking for such advice. They want to understand reality as much as we older people do.
But my point is that American intergenerational war is an op of the CCP and the Comintern. We have to thwart it.
My friend, we agree 100%. I have done that all my life and I suspect you as well. Frankly, for me it has worked out. But, it certainly was not done in a 40-hour week, but more like a 60 or 70-hour week, or without some sacrifice to my family for not being a more engaged father and husband.
But you forgot to mention that the system is somewhat rigged. You and I do all the things you mention in the post and live by the rules, and hopefully, it all works out. But is it fair?
When you realize there is a two-tier (maybe more tier) system, you quickly realize that it impacts things like our justice system, our social life, our ability to advance, and all other conditions. I use "our" to include your family -- which is really what it is all about. And that multi-tier system is designed to keep us in our place. That is, in that sweet spot where we work from can to can't with incremental advancements (the carrot) but always keeping it just out of reach.
Anyway, I'm not complaining. Life has been very good to me. I make these points because I'm not so sure that there is some degree of manipulation, maybe even a lot of manipulation, going on to achieve someone else's goals.
I don't know the answer. I simply pose the thought.
The boys are the key, we have to figure out some way to help them find their noble and powerful manhood in spite of all the forces fighting against that.
Need to segregate the sexes again.
Funny how the corporate guys on the BSA board worked so hard to destroy it. Another Comintern Op.
They said similar stuff about the boomers. Most of us turned out alright. They’re really gonna miss us soon.
The Xers and (most) Millenials were tame compared to the Hippies. The Woksters (of every generation) may be better groomed than the Hippies, but they are a lot more toxic.
Indeed expecting promotions for simply showing up.
Slackers never change it’s why we have tents on sidewalks.
Both you and your uncle will be different people than you are now.
“A HIGH QUALITY COMPANY CULTURE” ?????????
What the h___ is that???
MORE LEGACY FALLOUT FROM PARTICIPATION TROPHIES, IMO.
IF they are NOT working-—there is NO ROUTINE
For most of human existence, people worked hard, grueling work to keep alive. Most were agrarian. It was really quite difficult to produce more calories than one burned off to produce those calories. It’s Adam’s curse.
Genesis 3:17 “To Adam He said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.”
Only in relatively recent times has man produced the technologies to allow much leisure. The people who actually produce the things we need (food, energy, etc) are so many times more productive than their forebears.
My point? People think they are owed a good life without working for it. Truth be told, even unproductive people lead very good lives compared to their ancestors. That’s thanks to the hard working productive people who are carrying the laggards. (Except the takers are no longer grateful for it).
As to your point that the system is stacked against people moving up, that has always been true throughout human history. However, America truly was and is still the land of opportunity—maybe not as good as it once was but still better than most cultures. I hope Americans wake up before we lose that.
Good call. That’s probably what they’re trying to push with this BS.
