MOSCOW, March 23. /TASS/. Russia’s special services received information from the United States on a terrorist plot, but this data was of general nature without any specific details, a source in the special services told TASS.
After a statement of spokesperson for the White House National Security Council Adrienne Watson that the United States had shared information with Russian authorities about a terrorist attack being planned in Moscow, the source in the Russian special services said that "such information had been indeed received."
However, he stressed, that "it was of general nature, without any specifics.".

I am SHOCKED! SHOCKED! that the CIA did not share their plans for the attack with the Russians!

The State Dept issued a public warning two weeks ahead. Or course the Russians knew at least that much, if not from their own intel they can read our public statements. How much more detail the State Dept had or could have shared is obviously unknown.
But as for establishing “innocence” it can just as easily be turned around to claim evidence of guilt or complicity. “The Americans knew it and didn’t warn us” or even “The Americans planned this and warned their own people to get out” like all those conspiracy theories on 9-11 about people being warned ahead of time.
I understand. If they were specific, they would likely be giving away information that might get the source killed. One problem you have is, you don’t know what information the other side has. They can combine what they know with your specific information and determine how to destroy your network.
The Israelis had Momar Kadafi’s brother-in-law working for them. He had dinner every night with Kadafi. They gave information on a terror attack and provided the source. At a Washington dinner party somebody said something critical to Jimmy Carter and he felt obligated to defend why he’d done something, so he said, “Well we know from Kadafi’s brother-in-law suchandsuch.” The man was tortured to death. So, if you want to protect your network you never, never give any specific information. The information they gave was indeed specific enough, that it would be a concert venue attack, that the Russians could have taken protective action. Instead, Putin ridiculed the warning.
Remember, the Russians are not our friends. BTW, last I heard, the Israelis no longer give specific information to the CIA, because there are Jimmy Carters everywhere in the US government.
The Russians warned us about the Tsaernev brothers and we did nothing with the information.

The early (and non public) warning (by the FSB) indicates earnest anti terrorist cooperation by Russia without ulterior motives, as the time allowed full investigation by the FBI and the discovery of who financed and directed the Tsarnaev Brothers.
As you said, the FBI did nothing.
The public version of the warning was that the target was a concert in Moscow. That’s pretty specific and certainly actionable. The official communication was almost certainly more detailed, but even if it wasn’t, it was enough to be helpful. Reports (and video from security cameras) indicate there was absolutely zero security at the concert, despite warnings.
