Friction has grown between Manila and Beijing in recent months over competing claims in the South China Sea.
"These waterways are critical to the Philippines, to its security, to its economy," Mr Blinken said.
"They're also critical to the interests of the region, the United States and the world,"
"That's why we stand with the Philippines and stand by our ironclad defence commitments, including under the mutual defence treaty."
The visit is also likely to be seen as bolstering American support for Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos Jr, who has tilted towards Washington unlike his predecessor Rodrigo Duterte, who pushed ties with Beijing.

In other words, the Biden administration is about to betray the Philippines.

Gosh golly he can be so trusted. Never before a more trustworthy person, and a more trustworthy administration has ruled in Washington.

We shall lose the Philippines even sooner than Taiwan, if this statement is being read right. Blinken moves in oblique directions, much like the Bishop in chess.

Philippines has been doing things like getting some F-16’s and stuffing more weapons onto those large Coast Guard Cutters we turned over to them. Those boats are the best they’ve got. But... it’s only 3 ships.
They had better be working on their asymmetric defense capabilities, big time. Such could actually work quite well in their geography / environment.

The Biden administration is over. The next Presidential actions will determine the issue. However, there are new bases in the philippines that are clearly visible to China

IF we have sufficient resupply capacity (munitions, etc.) and the bases can be adequately defended, those bases are in many ways better than more ships. If we have that resupply capacity...
