The FReeper Canteen Presents...
St Patrick's Day

Canteen Mission Statement

Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years.

On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink, and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

Lisa Kelly ~ Carrickfergus

Clancy Brother & Tommy Makem ~ Johnnie I Hardly Knew You

The Dubliners ~ The Rocky Road To Dublin

Today, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated by people of all backgrounds in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Although North America is home to the largest productions, St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated in other locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore, and Russia.

Loreena McKennitt ~ She Moved Through The Fair

El McMeen ~ Danny Boy

Bill Douglas ~ Irish Lullaby

The Wolfe Tones ~ The Wearing Of The Green

The Chieftains ~ An Gaoth Aneas

In modern-day Ireland, St. Patrick's Day has traditionally been a religious occasion. In fact, up until the 1970s, Irish laws mandated that pubs be closed on March 17. Beginning in 1995, however, the Irish government began a national campaign to use St. Patrick's Day as an opportunity to drive tourism and showcase Ireland to the rest of the world.

Last year, close to one million people took part in Ireland 's St. Patrick's Festival in Dublin, a multi-day celebration featuring parades, concerts, outdoor theater productions, and fireworks shows.

Please remember that The Canteen is here to support
and entertain our troops and their families,
and is family friendly.

Feeling much better but still sleepy. I’m enjoying choklit puddin’ right now as I watch a murder trial. LOL!

I was pretty groggy the whole day but felt tip-top when I woke up the next day. Just takes a while to get all the anesthesia out of your system.
Yum, that choklit puddin’ sounds so good!

It was good! Had another with my lukewarm tomato soup for supper. I also had a butterscotch one. One of my faves. Reminds me of my mom’s butterscotch pies. Isn’t it odd the things that remind you of random other things?

I have no pain right now, so I put away the lortab after the one. I’m still sort of sleepy like you were, but will try to stay up for my usual time tonight. I wanna sleep IN tomorrow morning. LOL!

Lukewarm tomato soup? Yuck! Love the soup but do like it hot. LOL

I haven’t had butterscotch pudding in ages. Used to love it as a kid. Now you’ve kicked up a craving. LOL

With luck, you won’t need more than an occasional aspirin for a day or two.

Good luck staying up. If you do go to sleep early, you’ll probably sleep late anyway. And be good as new tomorrow. :-)

Well, the rules were, no hot food at this time. So I warmed it. Only thing was, I love pepper in my tomato soup, and that’s a no-no, too. All those tiny bits to get into sore spots.

I’ll take ibuprofen. Aspirin is another no-no, because of its blood-thinning properties. And I don’t take but just a baby aspirin anyhow, because I got a bleeding ulcer once from taking it. And job stress. LOL

Now then...go get you some butterscotch pudding next time you go to the grocery store! It’s sooo good.

I think I’ll be taking your advice about going to bed earlier. Still sleepy and have a headache. Probably both due to the anestesia. I WILL be better tomorrow!

How was the weather there? Are you still forecast for a freeze warning? That’s just nuts!

I wasn’t able to eat food at all until the stitches came out, and that was 10 days later. They recommended Ensure but YUCK! I lived on Instant Breakfast instead because it tastes much better and they have the same stuff.
And I had to swish my mouth with warm salt water EVERY time I drank some.

My first “real” meal was mashed potatoes, tomato bisque soup, two cornbread muffins, and some chocolate pudding. Doesn’t sound like much now but I felt like I’d died and gone to Heaven that day. ROTFL!!

Ibuprofen will do the trick.
I can’t take that or aspirin so take Tylenol, and that’s rarely. If my back’s giving me too much grief, I’ll take one.

Yep, the pudding is already on the shopping list. LOL I’ll head to the store Wednesday.

Yeah, give in to the tiredness and headache tonight and hit the sack early. No fun trying to stay up and fight it.

It was cold and windy here today and yes, the hard freeze warning is in effect. It happens often this time of year. We’re quite a ways north of you, where it WOULD be nuts. LOL

I have a friend on FB who is from somewhere in, TN and he posted a weather map tonight, right after I asked you about the freeze warning, and it looked like Tullahoma was going to get down to 25. EEK! Of course, it does happen just to keep us on our toes.

These stitches are supposed to “melt” in about 3 days. They prescribed some kind of mouthwash to use, but not sure if I’ll bother. Last time I had some and hubby did, we just threw it away. LOL!

I have a left-over baked potato that I think will be my first “real meal”. My birthday is Friday, and I’d love to have a hamburger, but guess that’ll need to be put off for a bit. Darn lousy timing!

Yep, pretty much all of TN is supposed to hit low 20s by sunrise. A heck of a way to start off the first day of Spring, huh? But they SAY we’ll get up to around 60 by afternoon. Not a cloud in the sky anywhere close, which is why the temp is bottoming out tonight, so the sun will warm things up nicely.

You didn’t have as much done as I did and you’re lucky. Only three days. I’d go ahead and use that mouthwash, or at least swish with warm salt water, after you eat or drink. That last thing you want is infection to set in. That’s what the swishing is for .... to stop it from happening.

I hope that baked potato is in the freezer if you aren’t going to eat it until Friday!

Good night and sleep well. And late!

I’ve been cussing Commiecast again. I don’t know what they’ve been doing tonight but it’s been a total pain on this end.

I wondered where you went and then thought ‘Oh, yeah Commiecast. Again.”

Hope you didn’t have any more trouble with it.

I turned the computer off right after my last post to you. It just kept getting worse. Seems to be ok this afternoon but we’ll see how things go later.

Back to normal after a good night’s sleep?

Yes, I feel more with it today than yesterday. Which is normal after surgery. I didn’t sleep very well last night, though. Guess I had too many naps. LOL!

Hope your internet hangs in there! I know you have to be soooo frustrated!

How was Kim doing when you went to see her?

Too many naps will do that - - make it hard to sleep through the night. LOL You can get back on track today and tonight.

Not sure what to expect with the ‘net this evening. I had an appointment this afternoon, then ran a couple of errands and just turned the computer back on. Fine for now but I took a peek at DownDetector and saw there have been a lot of reports this afternoon. Don’t know where because they come from all over. Just have to hope no problems c rank up here.

Kim’s doing fine. One leg still gives her trouble because it was broken in so many places. She’s started a new round of physical therapy and that doesn’t help, but it will in the long run.
