The FReeper Canteen Presents...
St Patrick's Day

Canteen Mission Statement

Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years.

On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink, and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

Irish Rovers ~ When Irish Eyes Are Smiling

Dominic Behan ~ Erin Go Bragh

Lisa Kelly ~ Carrickfergus

Clancy Brother & Tommy Makem ~ Johnnie I Hardly Knew You

The Dubliners ~ The Rocky Road To Dublin

Today, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated by people of all backgrounds in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Although North America is home to the largest productions, St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated in other locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore, and Russia.

Loreena McKennitt ~ She Moved Through The Fair

El McMeen ~ Danny Boy

Bill Douglas ~ Irish Lullaby

The Wolfe Tones ~ The Wearing Of The Green

The Chieftains ~ An Gaoth Aneas

In modern-day Ireland, St. Patrick's Day has traditionally been a religious occasion. In fact, up until the 1970s, Irish laws mandated that pubs be closed on March 17. Beginning in 1995, however, the Irish government began a national campaign to use St. Patrick's Day as an opportunity to drive tourism and showcase Ireland to the rest of the world.

Last year, close to one million people took part in Ireland 's St. Patrick's Festival in Dublin, a multi-day celebration featuring parades, concerts, outdoor theater productions, and fireworks shows.

Please remember that The Canteen is here to support
and entertain our troops and their families,
and is family friendly.

Howdy, Kathy.

A bit gloomy up there today, isn’t it? I didn’t see snow at Lake Hood but the mountains weren’t visible. Snow over there or was it fog?

When the dirt bag finally takes his dirt nap, I have a feeling a huge celebration will burst out spontaneously. LOL

ROTFLMBO!! You find some of the funniest graphics.

Still enjoying decent weather out there? It’s been nice enough here the past week but now the roller coaster is getting ready to make another plunge. Brief, at least.

Hope you’ve had a good day. It was drizzly here all day. Loved it.

I’m going to have to go pretty soon. I have to get up way too early in the morning for an appointment, so need to get to sleep early. Again. Got to stop this early stuff! LOL! See ya tomorrow!

Good! More drizzle! Plants will be happy though the kitties haven’t enjoyed it much.

We made it up to 63 briefly this afternoon but it was cloudy all day. We’re under a freeze warning tonight and tomorrow night.

It was a good day overall. Had a long visit with my sister.

Good luck tomorrow. I know you’re looking forward to it. NOT!!!
Catch ya tomorrow.

Your thread could use a bump, because it's never too late. Saint Patrick's Day is an iconic drinking party day, and it's always 5 o'clock somewhere. 180-days long in the kingdom of Ahasuerus, for example.

(The smart money's on those who are "drunk" on the waters of Torah.)

I don't usually pester you with strange replies, so perhaps I can sneaks this one in, about that

Unicorn Song..

a floating zoo, because God "seen some sinnin' and it gave Him pain",

because there's always something funny going on out there. As translated in the KJV, the unicorn is the mysterious re'em animal that like Boston, is associated with Joseph.

People assume that "the reason you never see a unicorn to this very day" is that they didn't listen, and as a result drowned while hiding, playing silly games. I've listened to those lyrics, and the song doesn't say that exactly, but rather that the waters came down and sort of floated them away...

😶‍🌫️ 🚀 🌑 😶‍🌫️

I take inspiration from Joseph, the quintessential "when there's a will there's a way" kind of fellow. I figure that the non-visionaries never dreamt of flying unicorns (aka alicorn for the horn itself).

Many will continue to insist -- 'til Kingdom Come -- that the re'em could not possibly be a unicorn (of one horn) because the text says "horns", plural.

Yet the stuff that just sits there in plain sight, on top of a Redstone ("the lunar unicorn of alchemy").

I often use word plays to take me on little adventures to wherever they go. That.. way, I'm sure to learn something new, in a.. way that will make a memory for the fun of it all. It's a journey, not a destination, which might be why the process tends to irk people. I end up all over the map, so it's not for everyone.

Anyway, it's like the marathon logo itself. I know I've arrived at the finish line* (with its double unicorns, one on each end), because I know that the answer to the question, "Are we there yet?" is always going to be "No." It's the destination of transcendence. The "missing" capstone as it were. I've long suspected that Joseph had a great view from his office window. Inspiring.

The Boston Marathon,

"EST." 1897.

Thus, in the spirit of this time frame of the 127th running, I'll point out the obvious, that the abbreviation "EST" has commonly-used options.

There's "Established", but also Eastern Standard Time (which when not passing through a leap year is 127 days long), and also the Book of Esther, aka "the revelation of the hidden."

EST 1:1 And it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, this is Ahasuerus who reigned, from Hodu [= 1897] to Kush, over one hundred and twenty seven provinces:

Right from the starting line, EST 1897:

ויהי בימי אחשורוש הוא אחשורוש המלך מהדו

The revelation of the hidden = prizes for playing.

Just in case anyone needs a handy mnemonic for the name of the king...

AHASUS

I sure hope "Comic Sans" comes through, because it's the font that everyone loves to hate, so that's even better.

Amazing how those colors all line up for the matching spelling effect. Oys-R-US, eh? 🤣

* Esther [אסתר] = 661, an address right there at the finish line. 661 is "Removery", a tattoo removal business. Translation: people need to keep coming back, returning.. for further treatment.

It never ends! Gotta laugh..

I always find the best stuff. When God said, "I will surely visit you", He wasn't kidding:

"Don't make me come down there." ~ God
