Zelenskyy: We need to think about how to hold elections, as currently the law forbids it
Ukrainska Pravda ^ | January 21, 2024

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine "needs to think" about how to hold presidential elections, because at the moment they are prohibited by law during wartime.

Source: Zelenskyy in an interview for British TV programme Channel 4 News

Quote: "I haven’t postponed [the elections – ed.], it happens automatically. I’m just not able to hold them now, primarily because of the law which forbids me from doing it. It doesn’t just forbid me from holding elections, but all institutions in general.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine [the Ukrainian Parliament – ed.] has to vote and give a mandate for the elections. They [the MPs – ed.] have to raise this question and vote. They can’t do that due to the prohibition – they can’t break the law. The situation is that elections are forbidden during wartime.

And even if it were possible to do it, what would we do about the temporarily occupied territories, and how could we make these elections legitimate so that they would be recognised by the world if over 6 million Ukrainian citizens are abroad and they would need the infrastructure to vote, and we unfortunately don’t have a format for online voting?

If you ask me, I believe we do need to think about how to do it. If I could do it tomorrow, I would."

Itis better than throwing more billions and our lives having to fight our enemy Russia ourselves. Seems to me to be a real deal. “Protecting DNC crime families”
give me a break.

"IIRC, he was responsible for the law coming into being."

Zelensky declared martial law on February 24, 2022. The Ukrainian Parliament approved it. It has to be renewed every 90 days. The fact that Zelensky continually renews martial law means he is the one that is refusing to let elections take place. And all the time martial law is in place, the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens are limited. For example, no work holidays are honored, and all holidays are now work days. Zelensky is the one who could end this, but I'm assuming he'd need the approval of Parliament for that.

"So?"

So you support the Biden Crime family, and U.S. politicians getting rich off the back of the American taxpayers?

“Just travel to Ukraine and see for yourself what Ukrainians are like.”

I don’t need to.

Just came back from Europe where millions of Ukrainians are refugees in Germany and elsewhere thanks to a war people like you thought was a good idea to instigate. I ran into several of them, including a young man whose parents were smart enough to get them out of Ukraine while he was still under 18 so that he doesn’t get killed in this senseless and stupid war.

What a great idea this was!!! https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukrainian-president-zelenskiy-holding-talks-with-biden-adviser-says-2021-12-09/ (Was it worth it?)

Let’s make this real clear: People like YOU caused this war. It is an unnecessary war, it was foreseeable that it would happen (especially post Rep. of Georgia 2008 and Ukraine 2014), and the outcome was predictable.

You cannot articulate a true national security argument for us without some make belief boogieman which does not exist.

You cannot tell me how the war has made me wealthier, safer or more free.

What argument do you have, other than name calling?

Now, it’s just a matter of time until the knuckle heads which caused this insanity (The Biden administration) disengages and a settlement is reached. I was hoping before the elections (end the pointless death and destruction), but with the tight control on the media nowadays that appears unnecessary and in fact it might be politically advantageous to keep this going until after the elections.

The end of this war will include No NATO for Ukraine, No EU (in reach before the war), 18% of Ukraine’s landmass lost, a population living in Ukraine going from 41 to 28 million, Ukraine’s most significant industrial area and the center of their steel industry being lost, tens of thousands dead, even more crippled (long term economic drain - a generation), a damaged infrastructure, exploding debt, an economy that shrunk by ~37% GDP, internal instability. Congratulations on your accomplishment, you are a true Ukrainian patriot!

I do not support the corruption of the Bidens just like I do not support the invasion of Ukraine by Putin’s military.

Thinking of the ways we could use that money at home. In NYC alone (Schumer’s home city) there are several projects we could build: The Interborough Express; extend the 2nd Ave subway to the Bronx; rebuild LaGuardia and Kennedy Airports; The Cross Harbor Rail tunnel; rebuild the BQE.

GloboHomoPedoNazi Zelensky should just announce Ukraine's Unconditional Surrender, and in the next breath announce National Elections in Ukraine on November 5, 2024, by Presidential Decree.

That's how simple it is.

I saw Biden's election as a turning point. Putin felt that he had an opportunity to conquer Ukraine because he sees Biden as a weak President. So he went for it.

I think an all out invasion of a third of their territory with an attempt at the capital justifies martial law. If that doesn’t, then what does?

"I do not support the corruption of the Bidens just like I do not support the invasion of Ukraine by Putin’s military."

When you support sending billions of unaccounted-for taxpayer dollars, and military equipment paid for by those same American taxpayers, you do support the corruption that goes along with it. And there is always corruption when you don't require accountability on the other end that is receiving the financial and military assistance. It's nothing more than another government program that provides the ability for corruption to occur because there is no oversight. This is nothing more than another proxy war with Russia, which we have been engaged in since the Korean War. America doesn't win proxy wars. Hell, they can't even win any war, proxy or otherwise, but hey! let's do another one, because it's so beneficial to the people who invest in war. Who gives a crap about the taxpayer.

I am aware of the history of “the” Ukraine. I probably could have worded my earlier response better, though. BTW, my grandson’s girlfriend is Ukrainian and was born there. I asked her how she felt about this war and her response was basically that she doesn’t have a dog in this hunt (my words).

And the Soviets were “pro-american” during WWII.

Is there any other country besides Ukraine that has a law that specifically cancels elections during incursions into their territory?

I guess you put other countries before the safety and security of The United Stated of America.

Well, move there then, to support the country you put before us, and our money, and our borders.

Your money, spend as you wish, but stop bankrupting us for something we have no business in.

This is to ALL supporters of the war, either side.. which is apparent that the Zeepers post about 20 to 1 compared to Russian threads. (spam)

And having ~ 14-16 political opponents assassinated:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/illia-kyva-pro-kremlin-ukrainian-politician-assassinated-near-moscow/

Banning opposition parties.

Jailing journalists that write something he disagrees with: https://nypost.com/2024/01/15/news/american-filmmaker-arrested-and-jailed-for-spreading-pro-russia-propaganda-dies-in-ukrainian-prison/

Closing newspapers and radio stations that say something derogatory.

Banning HAM radio since people might listen to the wrong thing.

Classifying everything that may be derogatory.

Mass censoring the Internet in Ukraine.

Of course, when Ukraine does this they have a reason and their reason is always OK.

In fact, no matter what they do, it’s OK.
