Road Trip: Beale Air Force Base, California

CAbealeafb9

Beale Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located approximately 8 miles east of Marysville, California.

The host unit at Beale is the 9th Reconnaissance Wing (9 RW) assigned to the Air Combat Command and part of Sixteenth Air Force. The 9 RW collects intelligence essential for Presidential and Congressional decisions critical to the national defense.

To accomplish this mission, the wing is equipped with the nation's fleet of U-2 Dragon Lady and RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft and associated support equipment. The wing also maintains a high state of readiness in its combat support and combat service support forces for potential deployment in response to theater contingencies.

The U-2S is a single-seat, single-engine, high-altitude/near space reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft providing signals, imagery, and electronic measurements and signature intelligence, or MASINT. Long and narrow wings give the U-2 glider-like characteristics and allow it to quickly lift heavy sensor payloads to unmatched altitudes, keeping them there for extended periods of time.

The U-2 is capable of gathering a variety of imagery, including multi-spectral electro-optic, infrared, and synthetic aperture radar products which can be stored or sent to ground exploitation centers. In addition, it also supports high-resolution, broad-area synoptic coverage provided by the optical bar camera producing traditional film products which are developed and analyzed after landing.

Global Hawk is currently fielded in three distinct blocks. Seven Block 10 aircraft were procured, but were retired from the Air Force inventory in 2011. Block 20s were initially fielded with IMINT-only capabilities, but three Block 20s have been converted to an EQ-4 communication relay configuration, carrying the Battlefield Airborne Communication Node (BACN) payload. Block 30 is a multi-intelligence platform that simultaneously carries electro-optical, infrared, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and high and low band SIGINT sensors.

PAVE Phased Array Warning System (PAWS) Radars are maintained by the Air Force. These radars are capable of detecting Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) attacks and conducting general space surveillance and satellite tracking. PAVE is a military program identification code.

The PAVE PAWS are ground based phased array radars located on the United States west and east coast.

Missile warning and attack characterization data is sent to the U.S. Missile Warning and Space Control Centers, the U.S. National Military Command Center and U.S. Strategic Command. Satellite tracking data is sent to the Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC) for processing.

One of the PAVE PAWS Radars has been modified to support the Missile Defense mission. Both systems are operated by U.S. and Canadian personnel. One of the PAVE PAWS has a co-primary mission to provide missile tracking data to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) GMD Fire Control Center (GFC/C) while simultaneously providing Missile Warning Data to the Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) system.

Howdy, PRO.

Did you have a kicked-back weekend or did anything come up that you decided to do?
Looks like spring rains are moving through up there.

Hi there radu!

I tell ya, our weather has been all over the place, within 7 days this past week, we had a record hot day, then a couple of days later it was 36 degrees, and then a couple of days after that, we had record rainfall. I’ve never spent so much time in my closet trying to figure out what to wear.

I’m 5 weeks out from my largest event of the year, our outdoor art and music festival, so the days are full for sure.

One more big one after that the first of May and then I am free as a bird for the summer.

WOO HOO!

Hope you have a terrific week!

*HUGS*

Sounds like we’ve been having pretty much the same thing going on lately - weather that’s haywire. LOL We haven’t had record highs but we had some nice warm days, then a cool-down with nights dipping to freezing. One more of those nights and we’ll have a nice week ahead.

Having put on a lot of car shows in the past, I don’t envy you the next 5 weeks. They can be butt-busting.
But you have May to look forward to and that’s not that far off. The two big events will keep you busy enough the time will fly.
Then FREEDOM!! LOL

Oh BOY!! Sounds like you have some fun to look forward to this week! You and your son always have a great time at the gun range. I hope the wet weather over your neck o’ da woods moves out by then.

Thingz iz ok here. Nice weather this week until Friday, and I’ll head up to the museum Saturday when a group tour is scheduled. A chance to listen to Da Boss’s spiel so I can understand the new layout. Right now, I don’t understand it at all, and others don’t either.
It means getting up at the crack of dawn but I’m champin’ at the bit!

March 12

Courage in Christ

Bible in a Year :

I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.

Esther 4:16

Near the dawn of the twentieth century, Mary McDowell lived worlds apart from the brutal stockyards of Chicago. Although her home was just twenty miles away, she knew little about the horrific labor conditions that prompted workers in the stockyards to strike. Once she learned of the difficulties faced by them and their families, McDowell moved in and lived among them—advocating for better conditions. She ministered to their needs, including teaching children at a school in the back of a small shop.

Standing up for better conditions for others—even when not directly impacted—is something Esther did as well. She was the queen of Persia (Esther 2:17) and had a different set of privileges than her Israelite people who’d been dispersed throughout Persia as exiles. Yet Esther took up the cause of the Israelites in Persia and risked her life for them, saying, “I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish” (4:16). She could have remained silent, for her husband, the king, didn’t know she was Jewish (2:10). But, choosing not to ignore her relatives’ pleas for help, she worked courageously to reveal an evil plot to destroy the Jews.

We may not be able to take on massive causes like Mary McDowell or Queen Esther, but may we choose to see the needs of others and use what God has provided to help them. .

Reflect & Pray

How are you using what you possess to help others? What role can you play in providing for those who may not live near you?

Dear God, please give me the wisdom and courage to serve those in need.
