Soho hotel slay suspect won’t be extradited to NYC to face murder charges, Arizona judge rules

Court Commissioner Barbara Spencer said Raad Almansoori, 26, refused to consent to extradition and will stay in Arizona to stand trial for attempted murder, dashing Bragg’s hopes of getting the accused killer back to Manhattan over the objections of Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, KSAZ-TV reported.

Manhattan prosecutors said they now plan to petition Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs to intervene.

“Nothing can happen on the fugitive case other than there could be what’s called a governor’s directive which is the document that would hold you instead of the governor’s warrant or you would choose to sign a waiver,” Spencer told Almansoori in court...

Bragg and Mitchell have since been embroiled in a legal scuffle over who would get the first shot at Almansoori — with Manhattan prosecutors claiming their murder case took precedence over the lesser charges of attempted murder...

But Mitchell said last month that she would keep Almansoori in her county, citing Bragg’s reputation as a soft-on-crime prosecutor in the Big Apple.

“We’re gonna keep him here,” she told reporters on Feb. 19. “Having observed the treatment of violent criminals in the New York area by the Manhattan DA there, Alvin Bragg, I think it’s safer to keep him here.” ...

Don't think I saw this posted yet, so here you go

The AZ charge is lesser than the NY one, but at least in AZ he won't be freely released and will have to serve his time ... NY is just a get-out-of-jail-free game

Kudos to AZ

Didn’t NYC have plenty of opportunities to keep this guy in custody, if they wanted to? It’s a bit late now.

Why did the murderer refuse consent?

If NY hadn’t let him go when they had him, then he wouldn’t have been in Arizona attempting to murder another person.

Probably figured he had less risk in AZ ... but they actually intend to prosecute, unlike NY

Creep is going to be unpleasantly surprised

I guess that figures to be the case.

It’s a little strange.

Maybe she’ll set an example so they don’t leave their comforts of blue America again.

Thx for posting this-I have not seen an update in a while.

New York can get in line and take him after he serves his sentence in Arizona.
Why is this even an issue?

"Why did the murderer refuse consent?"

Lawyer probably laid it out for him, maybe you get a plea for 12 in AZ and do 6, and by then he's a footnote.

But if he goes to NY, now Bluegums has to make an example of him, so this weirdo goes straight to Rikers for at least a year in the stir waiting for trial, where he could be trophy fodder for someone wanting to make a name inside.

"Almansoori, who was indicted last week in the Arizona cases, is charged with carjacking and stabbing a woman in Phoenix on Feb. 17 and attacking and sexually assaulting another woman at a McDonald’s where she worked the following day."

The real question is, who bonded him out in Florida (for identical crimes to the AZ spree) in April 2022, and who provided him with this credit card that is allowing him to commit these crimes and got him out of NY all the way to AZ? "Almansoori", gee that's a funny name. Gosh, kind of a middle eastern slime name...

That is an excellent point.

The high profile nature of it almost insures NY throws the book at him.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
