Ex-Rikers guard sexually assaulted by inmate claims deputy warden laughed at attack, said ‘don’t tell your husband’

A former Rikers guard who was sexually assaulted by an inmate claims a nurse at the notorious jail could have been spared an attempted rape if supervisors had taken her attack more seriously...

Yessica Delacruz was working an overnight shift at one of the jail’s clinics and was transferring incoming inmates from an intake cell to the medical unit when she first encountered Michael Cleaver just after 2 a.m.

...

Cleaver, 55, had just been arrested on Nov. 9 on charges of burglary, harassment and menacing...

...

“He came to the door and started pushing the door, like a football player,” she said of the 5′ 6″, 210 pound inmate. “He tried to grab me and attack me. He was desperate to attack me.”

...

Nobody was there to help her because her partner had been moved to work in another area,... The nurses in the clinic cowered in fear...

she was crying from shock and pepper spray while washing her face in the locker room when an assistant deputy warden knocked.

“I go into his office and he’s looking at the video laughing at the nurses running away,” she recalled. “He’s just, ‘Ha, ha, ha. Look at her running.’ I just couldn’t believe it. The laughing and the sarcasm.”

The jail boss told her to do a report and that everything would be fine by the next day. He also told her “Don’t tell your husband,” ... he was trying to hide the attack.

...

About 14 hours later, Cleaver allegedly tried to rape a 51-year-old unidentified nurse, throwing her to the ground, locking a cell door and pulling her clothes down. The attack was halted by another inmate who socked Cleaver, prosecutors said in court.

Time served for good behavior for the other inmate.

G. Gordon Liddy after release from prison and then commuted sentence from President Jimmy Carter, said:
I can’t begin to tell you how stupid they are,’ Liddy, a former FBI agent and lawyer, said of prison guards. ‘The staff does not run the prison. The prisoners run the prison.

‘Your typical prison guard puts himself in there because he cannot compete with the rest of society. He is a failed individual.’

He said guards are the same as prisoners except they chose to be there for hours every day and to go home after their work shift. Otherwise the same.

I know two guys who are prison guards. Both are former municipal police officers. It surprised me when they made the move from cop to prison guard.

Both gave me the same reason: the ever-present opportunity that exists in prisons to work overtime. Lots of opportunity to make lots of money. That wouldn’t tempt me. But they seemed happy enough.

Women don’t belong in men’s prisons, period.

Last night was a rerun of FBI: Most Wanted – Season 4, Episode 20 “These Walls.”
Prison riot as part of plan for escape while holding hostages with a deadly standoff between white supremacist racists and black racists versus corrupt guards and ruthless unaffiliated inmates. One guard was shot while he was on his knees on a sudden impulse by the white leader to show he was getting tried of waiting.

Doesn’t sound like Club Med.

Unless the prisoners are rioting, it’s probably safer for a prison guard than a big city cop.

doubtful Liddy had in depth discussions with staff back in the late 70s but at a camp it is a lot less stringent rules wise than in Penns and FCIs

I will never understand why our society has allowed this - then again, we’ve had a terminal cultural illness since the 1960’s.

most cons would kill someone that attacks female staff, they don’t want the only women they get to see to be removed for safety.

Rikers does have women prisoners, too.

I suspect that may be a woman prisoner who is trans male. The prisoner is 5’ 6” and the description is kind of written to hide that fact. For example the guard who was assaulted ‘held him back’ with one hand and sprayed with another. The initial attack failed and the prisoner ‘backed up’ until the male officer arrived. The prisoner ‘pushed the male officer aside’ which makes me think the male guard was cautious about using full strength/tactics on a biological female.

I think that male officer may have underestimated the threat if it was a biological female prisoner because we’re not really socialized to dread female on female ‘rapists’. The jerk in charge laughed etc. THey weren’t present when these women were sexually assaulted. The writer would like us to believe that the males involved were simply misogynist. I think the one in charge failed because attacked is attacked. Sexually assaulted is sexually assaulted. It was traumatic for both victims and it could have been avoided.

If the woke writer had just made it clearer...ah but we protect the trans label and this prisoner doesn’t impress.

"Why are women guarding male prisoners?"

That was my first thought.

Legally and illegally, makes no difference to the guards.

Female warders have NO PLACE in a male prison, unless it’s a desk job.
