The University of Florida is firing all employees in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) positions and administrative appointments, according to a memo the university sent on Friday.
"To comply with the Florida Board of Governor’s regulation 9.016 on prohibited expenditures, the University of Florida has closed the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, eliminated DEI positions and administrative appointments, and halted DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors," the memo states.
"Under the direction of UF Human Resources, university employees whose positions were eliminated will receive UF’s standard twelve weeks of pay. These colleagues are allowed and encouraged to apply, between now and Friday, April 19, for expedited consideration for different positions currently posted with the university. UF HR will work to fast-track the interview process and provide an answer on all applications within the twelve-week window." Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has made halting DEI a cornerstone of his efforts to overhaul education in the state, wrote on X, "Florida is where DEI goes to die." The memo added that the Office of the Chief Financial Officer would reallocate the approximately $5 million in funds previously reported to Tallahassee for DEI expense into a faculty recruitment fund.

We need him now in 24 .
I think it is likely the decision will be litigated. It may be difficult to get rid of tenured professors, but support staff are likely to be contract or civil service employees. Contract employees will be terminated when their contract is up and civil service employees will have bumping rights if they have seniority...
Yeah, except thise DEI employees won't really be fired.

Yeah. In lifted cowboy boots so he appears taller than he really is.
Better ideas?
“We need him now in 24”
I don’t disagree. But he dropped out. Although he dropped out, his name is still on the Az Republican ballot which I checked off to increase his totals so he is encouraged to run in 2028. That is the most one can do at this time.
GO GATORS!
Good work, Gov. DeSantis.
“DeSantis is a conservative who walks the walk.”
I don’t deny that, but it’s not NEARLY as easy as eliminating DEI positions, as they’ll simply create new ones for that bunch.
The thing to do now is TRACK where these women wind up - do they still remaining employed there under different job titles, at the same (or higher) salary, or are the campii FINALLY rid of them?
If they are still there doing anything beyond taking out the trash, then DEI is not gone as they are not good for any other job, as that requires a level of skill.
I never realized you lived in Florida until this thread. Are you a native or a transplant? Either way, love the sentiment about RDS.
(For the record, I am a displaced native of Florida.)
That makes 3 of us that I’ve read so far. I may have missed someone.
Isn’t it great what can happen when someone stops his Quixotic bid for President?
Welcome back, Ron.
Ye shall see them in thine Black Studies and Womyns Studies departments!
“A certain Leon County judge whose first name is Mark and last name is Walker . . .”
Damn shame he’s gotta do that. He’s plenty alpha without exaggerating his height.
I prefer to concentrate on those remaining in the race. DeSantis already dropped out and endorsed Trump. So my choice is either Trump (good) or Nikki Haillary (blecch).
See my #73.
Yep, that will happen if left to themselves.
As opposed to a spray on tan and a combover? In fairness…
Transplant. I LOVE it here!!
