The University of Florida is firing all employees in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) positions and administrative appointments, according to a memo the university sent on Friday.
"To comply with the Florida Board of Governor’s regulation 9.016 on prohibited expenditures, the University of Florida has closed the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, eliminated DEI positions and administrative appointments, and halted DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors," the memo states.
"Under the direction of UF Human Resources, university employees whose positions were eliminated will receive UF’s standard twelve weeks of pay. These colleagues are allowed and encouraged to apply, between now and Friday, April 19, for expedited consideration for different positions currently posted with the university. UF HR will work to fast-track the interview process and provide an answer on all applications within the twelve-week window." Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has made halting DEI a cornerstone of his efforts to overhaul education in the state, wrote on X, "Florida is where DEI goes to die." The memo added that the Office of the Chief Financial Officer would reallocate the approximately $5 million in funds previously reported to Tallahassee for DEI expense into a faculty recruitment fund.

A cancer doesn’t improve by moving it to another position.
GOOD. It’s a start.
“Umm - Sounds like the termites will just be relocated.”
And the job just be retitled.
hooray
real winning.
How long before the federal lawsuits & lawfare?
You know the crazies can’t just allow this to stand.
If only Glen Youngkin would follow suit in Virginia,,,,,,,

In Virginia, the Democrats control the legislsture.
1. "Fired" employees can simply be transferred to non-DEI jobs.
2. Universities might still enforce DEI unofficially regardless of the legalities.
When in the past, courts or voters overturned quotes or affirmative action programs, universities continued the same policies under other names (i.e., diversity).
Hope they have to work under people that they DEI’d out of employment.
Go Gators!
They're "qualified" for any university administrative jobs. Administrative paper pushers are administrative paper pushers. All that's required is for a university HR official to say, "Yup, you're qualified for this job too!"
Now, if someone can explain why the state would even consider re-hiring these DEI workers. What useful skill do they have?
And who is the President of UF? Ben Sass.
Go Gators!
Good governance and legislation
Ok, FSU, your turn!
“2. Universities might still enforce DEI unofficially regardless of the legalities.”
Not with DeSantis’ team in power.
“And who is the President of UF? Ben Sass.”
Sasse.
Appointed by DeSantis.
