Hamas Is Losing Every Battle in Gaza. It Still Thinks It Could Win the War.

Hamas’s fighters, the Al-Qassam Brigades, were doing fine, the upbeat message said. The militants were ready for Israel’s expected assault on Rafah, a city on Gaza’s southern edge. High civilian casualties would add to the worldwide pressure on Israel to stop the war, Sinwar’s message said, according to people informed about the meeting.

Hamas’s military wing in Gaza is waging an unequal fight with the strongest military in the Middle East—a war brought on by the U.S.-designated terrorist group’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel. But Sinwar, the mastermind of that attack and one of Israel’s prime targets, is playing a different game. His goal is for Hamas to emerge from the rubble of Gaza after the war, declare a historic victory by outlasting Israel’s firepower, and claim the leadership of the Palestinian national cause.

Key difference between Israel in Gaza and the US in Vietnam. Vietnam was halfway around the world. Gaza is right next door.

According to Netanyahu, Israeli success only occurs when Hamas is “totally eliminated”. You want to talk about failure in Gaza, there you go.

Why not? It worked for the NVA. All they have to do is capture the politician and media sympathy.

“ Israel has to find a way to destroy the morale of Palestinians are face years of war.”

Killing every last one of them would do that just fine.

They’ll never stop, and don’t be surprised if eventually they’ll win.

"In similar fashion, Hamas could win this war too, if Biden gets his way."

Hamas, the Nikki Haley of the Levant.

They keep getting knocked as flat as a cookie, and STILL they persist. Surely they are not doing it for the sympathy vote?

Hamas can win the “war”.

IF the Israelis fail to eradicate the source of men, funding and cultural influence ....then they’ll win eventually. Fighting an insurgency isn’t for the spineless quislings and cowards that aren’t up for the bloody task. A quick look at our DOD should give you a hint of what type would NOT win an insurgency.

Obviously they can win.

The certain guarantee of defeat in war is believing you cannot lose.

Israel has to find a way to destroy the morale of Palestinians are face years of war

Israel has failed to defeat the Palestinians in 75 years of war.

They need to a) believe they can lose; and b) develop a plan to win that does not involve a "peace process", "UN resolutions", the "international community", the "West", "rights to exist", European history, and the United States of America.

The fact that there is no such plan should start to raise the question of whether or not victory is possible.

They are involved in a civilizational/religious war of extermination. Their enemies are hundreds of millions of people, and history suggests wars like this can go on for more than one hundred years.

Only the war process can bring Israel victory, but the war that is necessary is on a vast scale which may be beyond the capacity of a small country.

Then after the peace Teddy Kennedy assured them if they attacked that the Democrats would not permit US troops to come to the aid of the South

That is nonsense.

Any President who even suggested re-engaging US combat troops in RVN after 1972 would have been dragged out of the White House and lynched by enraged mobs of US citizens - and the Army may very well have refused orders to do it.

Hamas is not the problem. Rather, Hamas is A problem, one Israel can probably handle. But they also have to handle the next Hamas, and the next, and the next, and so on into the indefinite future.

The generation that fought 1967 no longer exists. It's not an accident that the target of the current battle was a drug-fueled all night dance party, or that Tel Aviv claims to have the biggest gay pride parade in the world.

It doesn't get easier after Hamas (and Gaza) is wiped out. It gets harder, and then it gets harder still.

Exactly. We were never going to be able to win a civil war for people who didn't want to, or were too fragmented, to win it for themselves.

The best we could have done is maintain a peaceful transition to a unified Vietnam.

And we could have avoided the human tragedy of boat people, re-education camps, the killing fields, and 58,000 young Americans deads, and arrive at the same place we are now, normalizing relations and trading freely with Vietnam.

But we had to have the CIA 'S war. Got a bunch of people, like the Bushes, rich.

Hamas’s military wing

Hamas only has one wing - military. There are no civilians in Gaza. “Civilian” men, women children, young and old celebrated 10/7 and in many case helped out.

“There are no civilians in Gaza. “Civilian” men, women children, young and old”

Kill the eggs before they hatch into cockroaches. eh?

OK. That’s how you fight a war of extermination.

But don’t run crying to Uncle Sam when the same comes back on you, next time and the time after that. Moving into someone else’s land carries a risk. Sometimes Joshua blows his trumpet and the walls come tumbling down. Sometimes YOUR “children, young and old” pay the price.

That’s just how these things go. We are well out of it.
