Four men were charged Thursday in federal court in relation to an incident that led to the death of two Navy SEALs in the Arabian Sea in January, according to the Department of Justice(DOJ).
Muhammad Pahlawan, Mohammad Mazhar, Ghufran Ullah and Izhar Muhammad were charged in federal court in connection with the Jan. 11 incident in which Navy Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Christopher J. Chambers and Navy Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram were swept overboard while seizing Iranian-made weapons in the Arabian Sea, according to a DOJ release. Ingram and Chambers were declared dead by the United States Navy on Jan. 22.
Chambers and Gage were involved in a mission to seize components for ballistic missiles from a dhow, a cargo ship commonly used in the Middle East, that sailed from an Iranian port, according to court documents. The SEALs operated from USS Lewis B. Puller, an expeditionary support ship based in the region with the United States Coast Guard’s Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST).
“During a search of the dhow, the Boarding Team ultimately located and seized what is believed to be Iranian-made advanced conventional weaponry,” FBI Special Agent Patrick Francisco said in a DOJ court filing. “Preliminary analysis of the advanced conventional weaponry indicates that it includes critical components for medium range ballistic missiles (‘MRBM’) and anti-ship cruise missiles (‘ASCM’), to include a warhead, and propulsion and guidance components.”
Francisco said that Pahlawan, Mazhar, Ullah and Muhammed all made false statements when questioned by the MSST. All four men were charged with making false statements to federal law enforcement agents, while Pahlawan, as captain of the dhow, also was charged with transporting explosives.
“Navy forces discovered this suspected Iranian advanced conventional weaponry packaged without markings, labels, or identification in compartments near the front of the dhow,” Francisco said in the filing.
“Much or all of the weaponry was concealed inside tubing or among buoys,” Francisco added.
I’m totally confused. What and why were they charged?
A 9mm charge to the temple should do.
Well, I’m sure the fact that, three out of the four were named “Muhammad” had nothing to do with it.. (spit)
How the heck are what I assume to be foreign nationals on the high seas being charged in federal courts?
LOL. Nothing does more to undermine the credibility of the U.S. in global affairs than a military force run by lawyers … courtesy of Lindsey Graham and Ron DeSantis.
Has their group declared war? Were they in uniform?
What about our Special Forces blending into the populace? I guess the Geneva Convention doesn’t apply...not that the enemy in such places abides by the GC.
Yeah, that’s the way to get Donald Trump re-elected; criticize those who served.
Charged?!!!! Why aren’t they room temperature?!!!!
You mean military lawyers? Are they above criticism?
How can they charge someone with lying to a federal law enforcement officer when they were not within their jurisdiction? This is CYA for a screw up.
Exactly Federal officers have no jurisdiction out side the country.
They most likely say well it was on a US warship so they do.
Whatever happens to them, the US will provide the cash to pay the families of the mohammed’s very well.
Which adds to the mystery of how these highly trained Navy seals died. Meanwhile, Houthi rebels shot down $30 million US drone in Yemen, and the Yemeni Navy’s seizes Remus 600, an advanced American unmanned submarine. Iran and Putin happy. Unless China outbids them. But neither use feelings-based pronouns so no need for concern.
USA is dying.
Since there is no declared war, that would be considered murder. Only a theory though, there are many others.
We should just apologize immediately to them Make them citizens. Give them 20 million dollars each. Help them open the ice cream shop they always dreamed about running in North Carolina And of course allow 40 to 50 members of each of their extended families to come live with them in the U.S.
it will just save time in the long run to do it right away.
That’s rather vague
Swept overboard - or thrown overboard? There were no other U.S. military personnel in the area as backup for these two guys?
