New York Attorney General Letitia James welcomed Judge Arthur Engoron’s staggering $354 million fine against Donald Trump on Friday by declaring at a news conference: “Everyone must play by the same rules.”
But a review of 70 years of legal history by the Associated Press showed no precedent whatsoever for suing an entrepreneur or business for allegedly inflating real estate values when there was no victim that suffered any damage.

Boycott anything that has to do with NYC...products, people, shows. travel to, movies, books, and anything else that is produced there. NY needs to feel the pain of letting these two people to target and persecute an American that all he has done was oppose their ideas.

Anyone in NY who ever fudged the numbers on a mortgage application and later turned over the property for a tidy profit needs to understand that this could be them. If the state needs some extra cash for, say, migrant benefits, I would suggest a bounty system be set up. :-)

Since a lot of horrible people are in positions of authority based on Kolor, kink, and Kin... and not on merit - we need a law stating government officials can not read statements written by others - or by themselves.

It was sickening listen to that idiot Letitia James read a statement written by someone else that made her sound intelligent. Well, kind of intelligent considering what she was saying wasn’t rational.

However, Mar-A-Lago is not a home. It is a private club. Members can stay the club but only for a limited number of days.
Anyone who believes this judge just has to look at the “value” he placed on Mar-a-Lago at $18MM.
That said, what the judge did do was accept that the adjusted tax value is an appraisal of the actual value of the property...which is absurd, especially when considering the appraisal discount for the way the property was being zoned.
What fudge? This was several different numbers each created for different purposes. The tax code has an *adjusted* assessed value for collecting taxes. Trump has a value for which he believes he can potentially sell the property at his leisure. The bank has a value for which *they* believe they could rapidly sell the property under distressed conditions.
That these are all different numbers doesn’t represent fudging at all. They are for different purposes and pretending one is another is idiocy at its most charitable, and malicious fraud will a less charitable interpretation of the judge’s actions.
Re: 18 - I stay in contact with a county judge back in NY by way of a family acquaintance. The judge, a Democrat, was shocked by Engoron’s courtroom comments, demeanor and that such a fine was even issued. He opined that he believes the fine will be substantially reduced on appeal.
