How a right-wing Canadian rapper 'trolled' the Billboard charts by going to No. 1 [feat. Ben Shapiro]

Facts, by Tom MacDonald, is currently No. 1 on two Billboard charts; Rap Digital Song Sales and R&B/Hip Hop Digital Song Sales. Released on Jan. 26, Facts has blown past the genre’s usual stalwarts, pulling ahead of artists such as Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat...

MacDonald has scored hit songs before, but he got to No. 1 with Facts thanks in large part to his collaborator on the song, popular conservative podcast host Ben Shapiro...

Shapiro, a classically trained violinist, has often been a vocal critic of rap and hiphop music — routinely reserving segments of his podcast to pick apart trending pop songs as evidence of the United States’ cultural degradation.

In recent weeks, Shapiro has jokingly leaned into his persona as the No. 1 rapper in the United States, calling the whole saga “the funniest thing in the world.”

Facts even yielded an endorsement from artist Nicki Minaj, who was referenced in the song with Shapiro’s line “Nicki take some notes, I just did this for fun.”

“I just listened to it … not bad. Congrats on #1,” she wrote on X.com.

Most of the song is MacDonald, who raps a series of disses as to the usual themes of rap lyrics. “We ain’t pushing guns, ain’t promoting stripper poles, we won’t turn your sons into thugs or your daughters into hoes,” he says.

“I’ve never had any sort of burning desire inside of me to write about the plight of the white man or any lame s–t like that. Coming from Canada, these issues obviously exist but they’re not as volatile or as prominent in the media. Moving to the United States, it was a culture shock because everything here is about race,” he told Inked magazine...

Rap's not really my thing, but this one is pretty good

"According to an Instagram post by MacDonald, in just 15 days the song was able to generate 15 million views and 4.5 million streams..."

He even overcame some artist named Nikki releasing 20 different versions of her song and asking all of her fans to watch and buy all 20 of them trying to get to number one. Apparently Bill Bard counts things differently.

Tom has done some amazing things musically. If you don’t agree with rap you can try some of his other songs like scars believer ghost and there’s a few others I can’t remember that are not rap

His breakout hit was 2018’s White Boy, a critique of white guilt which includes the line “my parents brought me up to treat everyone as an equal, I refuse to feel ashamed ’cause of my pretty blue eyes.”

Never heard of Ben Shapiro, but whoever he is I hope has the good sense to not turn into a tattooed freak like that other guy.

He is an Orthodox Jew so tattoos are not his bag man.

I call him the overly caffeinated chipmunk because of how fast he talks. Listening to him quickly feels like you are about to be hit with a tidal wave of words.

On the other hand he has good enunciation which makes it easier to understand him.

Seems to me he had to slow down for the rap. Lol. #HOG

He actually raps slower than he talks. But your description is accurate. I listen to him at 3/4 speed lol
