One of the most well-established patterns in measuring public opinion is that every generation tends to move as one in terms of its politics and general ideology. Its members share the same formative experiences, reach life’s big milestones at the same time and intermingle in the same spaces. So how should we make sense of reports that Gen Z is hyper-progressive on certain issues, but surprisingly conservative on others?
The answer, in the words of Alice Evans, a visiting fellow at Stanford University and one of the leading researchers on the topic, is that today’s under-thirties are undergoing a great gender divergence, with young women in the former camp and young men the latter. Gen Z is two generations, not one.
In countries on every continent, an ideological gap has opened up between young men and women. Tens of millions of people who occupy the same cities, workplaces, classrooms and even homes no longer see eye-to-eye.
In the US, Gallup data shows that after decades where the sexes were each spread roughly equally across liberal and conservative world views, women aged 18 to 30 are now 30 percentage points more liberal than their male contemporaries. That gap took just six years to open up.
Germany also now shows a 30-point gap between increasingly conservative young men and progressive female contemporaries, and in the UK the gap is 25 points. In Poland last year, almost half of men aged 18-21 backed the hard-right Confederation party, compared to just a sixth of young women of the same age.
Outside the west, there are even more stark divisions. In South Korea there is now a yawning chasm between young men and women, and it’s a similar situation in China. In Africa, Tunisia shows the same pattern. Notably, in every country this dramatic split is either exclusive to the younger generation or far more pronounced there than among men and women in their thirties and upwards. The #MeToo movement was the key trigger, giving rise to fiercely feminist values among young women who felt empowered to speak out against long-running injustices. That spark found especially dry tinder in South Korea, where gender inequality remains stark, and outright misogyny is common.
In the country’s 2022 presidential election, while older men and women voted in lockstep, young men swung heavily behind the right-wing People Power party, and young women backed the liberal Democratic party in almost equal and opposite numbers.
Korea’s is an extreme situation, but it serves as a warning to other countries of what can happen when young men and women part ways. Its society is riven in two. Its marriage rate has plummeted, and birth rate has fallen precipitously, dropping to 0.78 births per woman in 2022, the lowest of any country in the world.
Seven years on from the initial #MeToo explosion, the gender divergence in attitudes has become self-sustaining. Survey data show that in many countries the ideological differences now extend beyond this issue. The clear progressive-vs-conservative divide on sexual harassment appears to have caused — or at least is part of — a broader realignment of young men and women into conservative and liberal camps respectively on other issues.
In the US, UK and Germany, young women now take far more liberal positions on immigration and racial justice than young men, while older age groups remain evenly matched. The trend in most countries has been one of women shifting left while men stand still, but there are signs that young men are actively moving to the right in Germany, where today’s under-30s are more opposed to immigration than their elders, and have shifted towards the far-right AfD in recent years.
It would be easy to say this is all a phase that will pass, but the ideology gaps are only growing, and data shows that people’s formative political experiences are hard to shake off. All of this is exacerbated by the fact that the proliferation of smartphones and social media mean that young men and women now increasingly inhabit separate spaces and experience separate cultures.
Too often young people’s views are overlooked owing to their low rates of political participation, but this shift could leave ripples for generations to come, impacting far more than vote counts.
Conservative men are looking for love in all the wrong places. I doubt you will find many conservative women on college campuses or in urban city bars. Go to rural areas, especially in the small-town churches, and you will find plenty of conservative young ladies with Judeo-Christian values looking for a help-meet for marriage with the goal of forming of a traditional family.
Or, spend your vacation time in the summer in conservative state parks and strike up a conversation with some of the young women also camping there.
If you are looking in the swamp then all you are going to find are swamp creatures.
Followed in later years by:
"Gen-Z women are increasingly bitter old hags - after realizing the lies they were propagandized with and dying alone".

Not a huge fan of Tate myself; I’d be inclined to steer younger men towards Paul Elam, Bachelor Joker, and Aaron Clarey. A lot of women could also stand to benefit by looking into some of Joker, and Clarey’s content.
“Unless we hand the country over to the Taliban, the right for women to vote will not be going anywhere.”
Considering the direction white liberal women are taking, they may soon find themselves in burkas and barred from educational opportunities or voting all. Many western countries are in essence handing over their countries to the equivalent of the Taliban.
For example, take a look at the pictures of women in Iraq or Iran from the 70s and compare them to the pictures of women in those countries of today. That change happened in just fifty years.
Britain and France are bringing in their conquerors and their culture is being rapidly replaced with those of Muslims. Women are being accosted on the street and told their clothing is too revealing and they shouldn’t be out in public. The U.S. is only a couple decades behind.
Not sure why you sent me that link. I read the piece but I don’t see the connection.
Maybe the reason they are not having sex.
Are the young women in this study real women or pretend women?
It just goes to show that the femleft’s efforts to divide men and women is successful
Good grief, what century are you living in?
You know what young women you find in small, rural towns? Single moms with meth addictions.
I believe you got that right.
I ask people, “Who do you think was/is more intelligent and thoughtful - our Founding Fathers, or modern men and women?”
The answer is obviously the Founding Fathers. Women were not given the vote for very good reasons. Now we see why, given the state of our society and government today. Women choose whom they vote for based on who is more handsome, or how they feel personally, without a thought to how their choices will play out and affect society.
Of course, it’s a generalization, and there are thoughtful women, but in the main, they are motivated by different things than men, which are not suitable to maintain the best society possible.
It’s akin to needing a strong male presence in the home who makes the final decisions (with input from the wife) - a father.
Welcome to FR.

Not where I live. The nearest local Baptist Church of about 250 active members has about 50 regularly attending members between the age of 18 and 25. And, they aren’t the only church with a decent number of young adult attendees.
Adam didn’t have to partake in the fruit, but he did.
I’ve noticed a lot more suicides from women lately than men.
Maybe it has to do with this Gen-Z liberal thing?
Increasingly leftist, not liberal. Liberal implies tolerance, leftists are the most intolerant people on earth; they actively try to crush what they disagree with.
Good point. I don't even know if actual liberalism --as us older folks understood it, exists anymore.
Actually, it does. Today it's called the "Dirtbag Left" and is made up of people who used to be total libtards until they were thrown out of the club for not buying 100% the ever-changing progressive agenda. And now they're finding sanctuary in the right.
So, you can be a total liberal on every issue but if you think that 6'5" 250 lbs muscle-bound linebackers can't be teenage female ballerinas, you're now a far-right fascist.
“It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers−out of unorthodoxy.” - George Orwell, 1984
Gen Z women will go extinct, so Gen Z men will marry boomer widows, thus solving the Gen Z problem of not owning a house.
Fan of Tate, among others in the space.
