Trump Lawyer Backs off Idea That E. Jean Carroll Judge Had Conflict

A lawyer for Donald Trump on Tuesday backed off her suggestion that the judge who oversaw E. Jean Carroll's two successful civil defamation trials against the former U.S. president might have had a conflict of interest.

In a letter to U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan, Trump's lawyer Alina Habba said she was satisfied that the judge and Carroll's lawyer Roberta Kaplan, who is not related, did not have a "mentor-mentee relationship" when they worked at the same law firm three decades ago....

"The point of my January 29 letter was to verify whether the information contained in the New York Post article is accurate," she wrote. "Since Ms. Kaplan has now denied that there was ever a mentor-mentee relationship between herself and Your Honor, this issue has seemingly been resolved."

I checked Wikipedia about two months ago and the judge left the law firm before Carroll’s lawyer joined the law firm.

Making a false accusation against a judge and a top-notch lawyer is high-grade stupidity. It might get Habba sanctioned by the bar.

Again Trump shows his incompetence at selecting people.

Everybody needs to understand the left plants lies. Some lawyer named Sidney(?) fell for one, as did Fox.

Don’t propagate nonsense. The left tries to poison our conversations.

A judge who worked at the same law firm as an attorney representing a party in a case before him should recuse himself from the case.

Some of these firms have thousands of lawyers and different fields of practice. They may have never even met. That would be more like having attended the same law school. If it was a small firm with only a few partners and associates, that would be quite different. JMHO.

Perhaps the mentor-mentee relationship was informal, but without a written agreement. The left is really good with weasel words.

If I read that right, now anyone stealing a kiss can be charged with rape.

Won’t that he handy for Deep State.

Irrelevant. A judge must avoid the appearance of bias. The defense that "you can't prove that", just proves the point. What he did just looks bad, and no one has denied anything under oath. For most, this explains his horrible decisions: the judge is biased against Trump. Otherwise, he would have recused himself from the case.

The only reason to suppress them is because they make her look unstable and batsh*t crazy.

I hope that there is a very smart, very savvy, very ethical, older male lawyer who will take Trump’s case. He has had enough attractive women in the position.

They got to her. Now even Trump’s counsel is compromised.

When are the words “Criminal Conspiracy” going to used to describe this mess?

I would have to look, but I believe the Judge disallowed the comments of Trump about women letting famous guys grab their p****y, but...it was done as a way to also exclude these tweets by that heinous piece of refuse Carroll.

I can’t verify that, though. I saw someone say that in a post, and it made sense given the collusion with the judge and the prosecution team.

From everything I can tell, Habba has been a terrible lawyer throughout. Trump’s biggest problem is that he’s unable to hire people well.
