He sold a bunch of stock last year, resulting in the highest single person tax payment to the IRS. Ever.

I also don't believe that the current Cleveland Browns are the legitimate heirs of the legacy of Jim Brown, Otto Graham, Greg Pruitt, and Marion Motley. Same name, and they are allowed to claim the records, but the owner and all the players went to Baltimore.

Who cares about them? Not a one of them plays or coaches today, but there are still fans in the stands who remember they day the Browns left Cleveland and THEY are the ones who deserve the claim to that history, not a team in Baltimore.

It’s the same with the Titans. Shame on them for wearing the throwback Oilers uniforms this season against the Texans.

” I didn’t think he was a co-founder.”

Elon is something like Tesla’s seventh employee and its fourth CEO.

There’s a great youtube video featuring the two founders and what their idea was when they started the company. It was not remotely as grand an idea as what Musk has made of it.

The Texans should buy the rights to the throwback Oilers uniforms from the Titans.

“I assume most of it was in stock options if certain metrics were met”

That sounds correct. Most of his money is tied up in SpaceX and Tesla.

He ends up selling shares in order to have the cash to pay the IRS since they don’t accept TSLA shares as payment.

but there are still fans in the stands who remember they day the Browns left Cleveland and THEY are the ones who deserve the claim to that history, not a team in Baltimore.

How far do we want to take it? There were Baltimore Orioles in the first half of the 20th Century, and the current version had been the Milwaukee Brewers before they were the St. Louis Browns. Teams move.

I happen to be a Rams fan, but they won a championship in Cleveland before moving to Los Angeles. They remain the Rams despite numerous moves.

An organic entity has to have a continuous identity, and location is an accidental trait. It would have been much better if Art Modell had sold the Browns and given a startup franchise, or pull a swap, like Carroll Rosenblum did with the Baltimore Colts (there's Baltimore again!) and the Rams. But he didn't.

I used to be a Dodger fan, and no move broke more hearts than the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn. If the Dodgers went to LA and became the Los Angeles Robins and Brooklyn got a new expansion franchise called the Dodgers (with similar happening with the New York Baseball Giants), the loss would have been just as real.

I would have bought one if they called it the Tarberhard.

No, the claim was not actual negotiations. That Elon controlled his own pay package.

Some of what you are saying is true. And there is some debate over whether Musk should be considered a “founder”, but I believe he is in every sense.

He was the main investor when the company first raised private equity. He took over just a few months later. And here is the most important factor: there was no product to sell until 4 years later.

So, sure a couple of other guys got the ball rolling with their electric car idea. They chose the initial design of the Lotus body/frame quite possibly before Musk was involved (or maybe not). But Musk is the primary person who got it off the ground, kept it out of bankruptcy, and made it very profitable. Without Musk there would be no Tesla, and probably no EV automotive market.
