Fire at chicken farm in Brazos Fire expected to burn for days, reports say (Texas)

BRYAN, Texas – A fire at Feather Crest Farms in Northeast Brazos County ignited on Monday evening and officials said the chicken farm may be burning for days until it’s fully extinguished.

KBTX in Bryan said the fire started at 5 p.m. east of Kurten and multiple fire departments from Brazos, Robertson, and Madison counties responded.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. KBTX reported the flames were contained in two buildings.

We here in the Ozarks often have a chicken house burn killing up to 40 thousand at a time. I remember one man who built a new house, had it half filled with new hatched chicks when it suddenly burned before he could get insurance on it.

It was the straw bedding and gas heaters that did it.

Chicken manure is about as high of nitrogen as one can get when combined with straw bedding it rapidly starts to ferment generating much heat and methane gas this is a recipe for disaster as one spark or gas heater in an area with the right air to methane ratio and wooofff up it goes. Manure pile spontaneous combustion is common all over the world no dark conspiracy needed. Someone F’d up cleaning out the holding pens or tanks for the manure it reached critical temp and air fuel and poof up it goes.
