Everything that’s happening in America today, Star Trek was there first. I mean the real Star Trek with Captain James T. Kirk, not the endless woke spinoffs and ripoffs still leeching off the original brilliant construct to oppose the very point of it. A planetary pandemic that kills adults while leaving children unafflicted? See Miri (episode 11). Deific technology that brutally cancels both free speech and speakers? See The Apple (episode 34). A mentally incompetent leader kept hidden from the public except for controlled glimpses so that radical extremists can rule through him? See Patterns of Force (episode 50). Racists who view skin color as the content of character and demand atonement for long ago crimes? See Let That Be Your Last Battlefield (episode 70). Women who seize command from abler men by physically imitating them? See Turnabout Intruder (episode 79). The Deep State trying to stop a visionary figure from ending an obsolete yet profitable war? See Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991). Captain Kirk met these challenges and many more, much as President Donald Trump is now doing. And if Trump can be compared to Kirk, and boldly go where no president has gone before, then Joe Biden is John Gill from Patterns of Force.

Doesn’t matter how they define woke NOW. What matters is that 58 years ago Gene Roddenberry very deliberately and on purpose set out to make Star Trek the most progressive, pro-diversity, anti-racist, anti-judgement show on television. By the modern parlance: WOKE. Star Trek is, was, and always will be woke. Whatever people are calling that heavy on the diversity mindset 20 years from now will be what Trek is doing. IDIC. Trek has always been about IDIC. The only thing that ever changes is that as we move through our own decades people see more groups to include into the D, and then the next Trek puts them there too.
The difference between the 1960s and now was that competent and intelligent people of all races were supposed to treated fairly—that was Star Trek.
Today—incompetent fools are supposed to be promoted because they are black or LGBTXYZ666—and everybody is supposed to shut up and pretend it is not happening.
No. Calling them names just shows you lack facts and logic to use against them. It’s just table pounding and pointless.
Yes Trek was woke. I’m not saying woke and liberalism are the same thing. Actually it’s YOU guys that keep doing that. I’m pointing out the Gene’s goal was as much diversity as he could get. That’s woke. And no woke people don’t freak out over the captain being a straight white male. Silly name callers who lack facts and logic SAY woke freaks out over that. But back in reality, not the case.
Whatever
As a trekkie from day one, at age 16, I followed/still follow all the stuff about it, because it is an interesting phenom-Majel Barrett was Roddenberry’s wife and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) was his mistress-both of them wrote about that and discussed it in interviews on TV in later years-they competed constantly for roles and attention from Roddenberry. People didn’t want a female 2nd in command in that day and time, Roddenberry had given Nichols a prominent role in the series-likely to keep her from turning him into burnt toast in the press-so now he had to find another nice role for wifey to keep her from taking his last dime in a divorce-hence, nurse Chappel, who was made even more interesting for her not-so-secret desire to be boffed by Spock. No woke there, just simple female jealousy and a man’s sense of preservation of his finances and livlihood...
BTW-I think Star Trek TNG stank on ice-I watched it, but I liked Cmdr Rikker’s character and Lt. Worf-the counselor/psychotherapist, Troy was whiney and insipid, and Picard was a snob and a wuss, for the most part. the other spinoffs were not as bad as TNG...
Hahahaha. A yes the old “everything you said is wrong and I don’t wanna even get into it.” Which in reality means you have no arguments against what I said but you’re too damn chicken to acknowledge that means YOU’RE wrong.
Everybody was Gene’s mistress. He was a cus hound. And Majel knew it, and learned to live with. She caught him cheating on her with hotel staff on their honeymoon. Nothing going on with Nichelle would have burnt him. Majel had accepted it.
GET A LIFE!
But William Shatner is Canadian.
I know. Kirk is a kind of Space JFK, with Andrew Jackson thrown in. Biden must abide by the E PLEP Nesta
Acceptance is not something that will keep a woman from protecting her pride-or burning to the ground the jerk who makes her a fool in public-check out some of the interviews Barrett gave in later years-she would have done it to save face and for the $$$. the only reason it never happened was because horndog Gene died early. Scandal was a big deal back then-the more salacious the better to make money by publishing it-I read the scandal mags then, just like all the other girls and women...
Roddenberry didn’t write that many episodes.
I believe he had a hand in rewriting “City on the Edge of Forever” — he did not give himself a screen credit.
Strangely enough, he does have a screen credit for “Bread And Circuses.”
Haha first you yell at me to get a life, then you reply to me. With a bunch if very wrong things. Kirk might be a Midwestern farm boy but with that German name he’s definitely not 100% American. The Federation is the UN, just look at the flag. The Klingons and Romulans are way more complicated than that. There’s a lot of historical Japanese attitudes in the Romulans, plus of course the Roman empire. Klingons are actually really hardcore capitalists. The Federation are not always the good guys, they want to be for sure, but Kirk violates regs way too often for them to be always right. The format is western but it is NOT a cold war drama. It’s biggest message is that we can move past all of that.
Actually that’s what acceptance is. On later years Majel realized she shouldn’t accept it, and stopped. And good for her. Acceptance isn’t necessarily permanent. But at the time casting Nichel had nothing to with protecting anything and everything to do with trying to make the cast more diverse. Same reason he cast Takei. Gene didn’t die that early, he was 70. And in the 60s a powerful successful man cheating was not salacious, it was a given. Especially in Hollywood. The casting couch was already assumed. Nope sorry, your dog ain’t hunting.
I’m Ukranian, Polish and Germany Jewish, and I’m 100 percent American. I don’t appreciate it. You are a wackjob.
