Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement on Texas’ constitutional right to defend and protect itself as President Joe Biden continues to attack Texas and refuse to perform his duties to secure the border.
“The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now,” reads the statement. “President Biden has instructed his agencies to ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants. The failure of the Biden Administration to fulfill the duties imposed by Article IV, § 4 has triggered Article I, § 10, Clause 3, which reserves to this State the right of self-defense. For these reasons, I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself. That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.” [Full statement pdf HERE]

I will buy you a beer if we ever meet.
The drug thing is the key to proclaiming invasion. The Progs will claim peaceful migrant families are not an invasion. ( Aside; though they claimed unarmed protestors were an insurrection). But Abbott can claim with justification that the cartels are inundating the country with drugs, most particularly fentanyl. Fentanyl is deadly. It has killed hundred thousand Americans. It has come here as a result of open border, the existence of the cartels, and likely action by unfriendly state actors. That is invasion by chemical attack and Texas has a Constitutional right and obligation to repel that invasion.
Perhaps there needs to be mass swearing in of deputies to aid in this matter.
I would think this qualifies since millions of fighting aged men who are actual soldiers are coming across the border. See Michael Yon’s reports.
That is fantastic!
Where’s the article?
The last and the next few years are an era I think may end up as significant as the Revolution and the Civil War in our nation’s history.
If our country survives, this era will be closely examined and widely discussed for centuries to come.
We are living in amazing historical times so do pay attention.
I do wonder how it will all end up.
Have Local Sheriff’s begin the deputizing of able-bodied men.
Full background checks for each, with a public oath to serve at the Gov’s pleasure. POST certified, ex-military first encouraged. Texans move to the front of the line.
National Guard Volunteers from other states should be granted temporary TX citizenship if necessary.
Next, begin full inspection of all trucks, trains and buses entering from Mexico (full inspection end-to-end by the book).
Suspend operations of all Central American based banks operating in Texas.
just for starters.
just my $0.02
Texas has a State Guard in addition to the National Guard. The State Guard is never under Federal Control.
State Guards are militia, and the President may call them into Federal service to repel invasion, suppress insurrection, or enforce the laws of the United States.
Once again, there is no way in hell that you are going to see people planting land mines and shooting people down in droves-that is the stuff of dystopian novels-and countries in Eastern Europe like Ukraine, etc-not this state-or country. The border has too many private properties along the 1000 + miles of it-in Texas alone-nobody is going to turn that into a kill zone when all that has to happen is to actually just close the border crossing points-all of them, post armed guards that are very visible, etc-shut down commerce for awhile- Mexico needs our business and tourism way more than we need theirs. Mexico should begin to feel the pain in less than a week...
Where do you live that you are so insulated from the reality of ranches/farms close to a river that is also a border? In a big city? Everyone in this rural area where I am knows this stuff-and even with the border over 100 miles away. My family has been ranching/farming in what is now W Texas and NM since the late 1700’s. I grew up on a small ranch in W Texas, 60 miles from the border-and yes, I’m a card carrying Spanish speaking Hispanic-a natural born Texan and American-my family has been concerned about the mojado situation ever since I can remember, like most everyone else who lives with it every day.
Let’s see every state get off their ass and do their part-don’t hire these people-hire Americans and pay them a fair wage-if you feed and house mojados, hire that cheap illegal labor, you are feeding the beast and you have no business complaining...
Tapioca Joe and his handlers can go to hell.
> The Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and other Texas personnel are acting on that authority, as well as state law, to secure the Texas border.
Does that say what I think it says...
> Does that say what I think it says...
Oh, maybe the Texas State Guard. OK then. Carry on!
Iconic
Agreed. I’ve been wondering if Abbot’s declaration might be the ‘shot over the bow’ that begins the resistance movement.
And how was "the militia" defined by the Founding Fathers? According to George Mason, the "militia" is every one not associated with the government.
