The Senate advanced another short-term spending bill Thursday afternoon.
The continuing resolution (CR) passed 77-18 over objections from conservatives, including Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who insisted on a vote to amend the bill, which failed.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) immediately moved to set up an afternoon vote in the House. Passage would extend funding levels and priorities originally set by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in December 2022.
The @HouseGOP is about to join the @SenateGOP to continue – AGAIN – to fund the federal govt at Pelosi’s spending levels, & continue to fund all manners of horrible abuse of power & polices from open borders & gun control to the UN and the WHO. All GOP should oppose.

26 Repubs were no voting
A slight majority of Repubs who did vote voted yes, so the Speaker did not pass it over the majority of the majority.

“I DO NOT SEE A “DIFFERENCE”.”
The departments are supposed to be funded in their own bills, so that the people, through their representatives in the legislature, can exercise oversight over the executive departments.
But since 2007 we have been functioning by continuing resolutions, one after another, one emergency to the next, with an insidious intent: that the check of the power of the purse, retained by the House, should be thwarted.
That is why the Senate NEVER passes any funding bills. They dither until September and then force an “emergency” all funding in one bill. The entire government’s funding, in one vote. No committees, no markups, no amendments, no debates, no floor votes, no conference committees, no deals between bodies.
Just ever increasing spending, with no checks to power whatsoever.
This is for FYI 24. FYI 25 better dmm we’ll be 1 Bill at a time.
Amen
Our great republicans doing what they said they would do after last election /s /s
Elections will not fix anything. It is time for the 3%.
When was the last time these dolts did their job and pass a real BUDGET?
