Ukraine suffered a mass Russian missile attack in the early hours of Saturday, its air force said, adding that Moscow had fired some of its most fearsome hypersonic missiles.
Air defenses shot down Russian missiles in at least five regions across Ukraine, according to local officials from those provinces.
However, no details were given on whether any targets were hit, and far less information about the attack than usual was provided by officials.
Ukraine's air force warned during the attack that Russia had fired Kinzhal missiles -- perhaps the hardest conventional Russian missile to shoot down, moving at several times the speed of sound.

No details is the best news they can print.
The Ukraine was able to shoot down 65 of the 40 missiles that Russia fired.
“Missed me by THAT much!” You’d think with all those gorgeous Ukrainian women they’d have a ‘Kiev Rose’ by now.
Russia ran out of missiles no they got em from North Korea no they stole them from blah blah blah.
Moving at several times the speed of sound shouldn’t matter with modern computing speeds. Reminds me of a science fiction novel I read about a war in space. Humans had no real role in it. Computers calculated all possible moves and fired measures and countermeasures. Basically they were using clouds of iron balls. Within in seconds of the start, the human crews knew whether or not they were dead…long before impacts.
So, faster than sound is slow as a turtle with modern computing, especially if an incoming missile or round is on a predictable trajectory. Maneuverability would make something more survivable, but whatever us inbound has to make predictable flight path changes at some point in order to actually hit the target.
Putin is REALLY desperate to try to end this war before the March elections (so he won’t have to talk about the failure)
Won’t happen, of course ...
oops we forgot to empty it first
It never fails to fascinate me that the Media has the power to shut off the brains of the Ukrainian cannon fodder with stories about Russian egg shortages and Kerch Bridge attacks, when any Ukie with any sense would be running screaming from the Eastern Front.
Speed and stealth are so last war…
Russian engineers forgot about the Shitkaputski.
Looks like Goliath is struggling to whip David once more.
Even computers of the early 80s were fast enough to compute intercepts of incoming ballistic missiles using Bayesian algorithms.
“Moving at several times the speed of sound shouldn’t matter with modern computing speeds.”
You are talking about hitting something with a claimed speed of Mach 10.
Note, an artillery shell velocity is less than Mach 3.
The Russian election of 2024 has a wiki.
Ignoring the Nazulny paragraphs, which are many, you can see the array of candidates actually on the ballot for the March election, and maybe more important, how many seats each of their parties hold in Parliament.
There is a separate wiki for Nazulny that reveals some things not addressed by the preference of media to describe him only as jailed opposition.
As for hypersonic and computing speeds, Khinzal are air launched and 1000+ miles of range. There are challenges to the published speeds, but the issue is . . . at least Mach 5, down from claimed 10 (which it may be).
The challenge for air defense is not so much speed as how far it has to go post detection. An air defense battery with radar up maybe 10 feet has a horizon 4 miles away.
1000 miles/hour will travel that 4 miles in 15 seconds. These missiles are faster than 1000 mph. You have to detect, identify, target and have your interceptor arrive in 15 seconds. That also presumes the radar has nothing else to do.
They are not going to be shot down.
Speed is only a fraction of that at low altitudes..
Somebody, somewhere is holding the Russians where they are.
Failing to advance on the battlefield, Putin’s Ruskies are targeting the Ukrainian general population at the coldest time of year to make them suffer. Meanwhile, Ruskies are freezing and starving on the battlefield, at least those not used as cannon fodder.
It's always nice to remember that for every one of those unsophisticated and crappy but cheap and easy to manufacture Russian missiles that gets shot down, America has just burned through at least two 6 million buck Patriot interceptors. Interceptors that we have neither the budget nor the supply chain and industrial base to replace for at least 5 -10 years. So in reality, each shoot down of a Russian missile is a win for Russia.
Our genius policy wonks planned to start a proxy war in Ukraine to have Ukrainians die by the hundreds of thousands to "attrit" Russian military , but now it looks like our military assets are ones being attrited.
One day soon we may just wish we had those missiles and smart weapons the Ukrainians squandered to no good purpose to protect our troops and defend our country.
