91% of small business owners say colleges are giving students 'unrealistic expectations' for life after graduation: Survey

91% of small business owners are concerned that "educational institutions are fostering unrealistic expectations among students regarding post-graduation and professional life."

An alarming number of small business owners are concerned that American colleges and universities are creating far-fetched expectations for graduates as they transition into the workforce, according to a new survey.

The Freedom Economy Index, a project of Red Balloon and PublicSquare, surveyed over 70,000 small business owners and found that 91% of respondents are concerned that “educational institutions are fostering unrealistic expectations among students regarding post-graduation and professional life.”

Small business owners who responded to the survey reported that ”salary levels,” “amount of work hours required,” and the “difficulty of work to be performed” were among the top three challenges that college graduates face when entering the workforce.

63% of respondents said that college graduates often have “unrealistic expectations on salary levels.” 62% reported that graduates have a hard time adjusting to the hours of work required for the job, and 50% said that graduates “have wrong expectations about the difficulty of work to be performed.”

One small business owner who responded to the survey said that college graduates “expect it to start at the top without having to work.”

”No actual ‘job’ training. They come in with mountains of debt and no experience,” one small business owner said.

”Inability to work independently, constant need for validation, unrealistic expectations,” said a small business owner when responding to the survey.

These people come out of college more worried about their DEI score than actually being a functional part of society,” another small business owner said.

Nearly half of those who responded to the survey said they have concerns about the “alignment of diploma subject matter with real-world business needs.”

Small business owners ( like family farmers, family ranchers, family outfitters - hunting guides, owners of rural motels, mom & pop restaurants, and such ) are on their exterminate list..

Leftist, progressive, vegan, homosexual politicians have declared war by introducing huge Canadian wolves into rural areas to kill wildlife and live stock .. higher taxes, fees, regulations, closing public lands, removing Klamath & other dams that produce green energy / irrigation water to grow food, existing ( paid for ) power plants that run 24/7, and more.

lol! So was I... grew up in the north, but my mom was from Yell County Arkansas, and was a champion hog caller!

If the switch I brought back wasn’t nice and flexible enough, she would send me out for another one!

“and was a champion hog caller!”

That’s funny! I won concert tickets to CSN&Y in Nashville for a hog call I did on the radio.

They can go cut their teeth a CFA and come to me with some skills and we’ll talk. but these idiots can’t make 99 cents change from a dollar bill. push a broom? “how do I do that?” or worse “I won’t do that” can you go outside to this truck and pull the hood for a customer waiting? “its cold out, can they come back tomorrow?”

not even worth minimum wage.

Thanks for the laughs about hog calling, and switches. I relate to both of those. :)

Too many of them are Tik-Tok addicts and obsess about their mental health. They believe their “mental health” affords them concessions. One employee wanted to wear headphones all day, needed breaks to cry, needed to come to work late and needed additional mental health days. They had a laundry list of maladies including Autism. Nothing could protect them from the 90 day clause and they were gone in a month. Then they are crying about a lack of jobs.

We used to have a huge wood pile out back (salvage from demolished coops and houses), our mom would tell us to go out and get a good paddle board.

Once my brother and I brought back what we thought was a good one, we didn’t inspect it close enough.

MOM didn’t inspect it very well either.

It was just loaded with those tiny brad nails, when MOM was done and the blood started seeping through our jeans she asked just what we had brought back.

Me and my big brothers asses looked like we had been assaulted with #6 birdshot.

Every time there after we were real careful about the board inspection, had to be big enough to cause pain but not big enough to break bones or leave your butt with a thousand holes.

AAAHHHH THE GOOD OLD DAYS, when MOM’s were MOM’s, and BOY’s that did stupid crap got what we so RICHLY DESERVED!

AGREED!! Sounds nuts but what you say would have saved the kids and their families so much money, suffering, etc.

Just a couple months after high school of pure partying would have gotten it all out of their systems. Then they could go work somewhere without the bummer and stigma of flunking out of college. Not to mention the 20-50 k hit in tuition and fees.

I think you may be on to something.
