Actually, I was okay with the six-foot distancing guideline, but not for COVID reasons. There were a large number of residents back in the Bay Area of CA, who seem to be showing up in greater numbers here in Central Texas, who were of the mind that "their space was *their* space, and your space was also *their* space" while in public. At least for a while, these people backed off.

That's no longer the case, except for those who have decided to wear the masks again. They are perfectly happy to walk right in front of you without looking, or to drape themselves over you just because something they want happens to be right in front of your on the shelf. I'm not a doddler in the stores, so it's not like I am standing there looking for very long.

I distinctly remember during one press conference Dr. Brix (Birx? I forget) showed a slide of how the aerosol “dissipates” after a certain distance. That was the justification for 6 feet. It may have been a lie, and had no effect on transmission, but that was what they said.

But they made so many contradictory and shifting claims it’s hard to know what’s true, and that is the great shame. They have lost the trust of great swaths of the American - and worldwide - people. It would have been much better if they just said “we don’t know, we are looking into it”. Instead they went hardcore authoritarian and made stuff up that was patently false or intentionally misleading.

As I recall the six foot rule was based on the distance of a sneeze would disperse. On a related note, the custom of saying God Bless You in response to a sneeze dates back to the Bubonic Plague. A sneeze was a symptom of the plague and a death sentence.

So lockdowns did more harm than good.

Masks didn’t stop the spread of covid.
Social distancing at 6 feet was meaningless.
