The campaign of a House Democratic candidate from Michigan darkened the skin color of his black Republican opponent in public requests for donations, earning a swift denunciation from the lower chamber’s GOP campaign arm.
Carl Marlinga, who is running to flip Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, posted a black-and-white picture of Rep. John James on X that made James’ skin appear darker than it is — next to an image of Marlinga in full color.
“In 2022, we came less than 2,000 votes away from flipping Michigan’s 10th blue. No one saw it coming,” Marlinga said as part of a pitch that linked back to his ActBlue page, which features the same darkened image of James.
“In 2024, we will finish the job. Michiganders deserve it. Join us,” he added, including a headline from the nonpartisan Cook Political Report that calls the contest with James “the third-closest House race in the country.”
The National Republican Congressional Committee slammed the campaign’s decision to alter the photo in a statement to The Post — and called on Marlinga to return any donations gained from the effort.
“Carl Marlinga is showing us his true character and it’s abhorrent,” NRCC spokesman Mike Marinella said. “He should apologize and refund the money he raised on this despicable effort.”
Marlinga’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.***

Did it work?
This is a common practice in political ads to show yourself in color while showing your opponent in black and white. However, we all know what the media response would be if the political parties were reversed.
Just use a little more tanning cream than the manufacturer’s recommended amount.

Carl Marlinga was charged with two counts of bribery and one count each of wire fraud, making a false report to the federal election agency and exceeding campaign contribution limits but he was acquitted in 2006.

That isn’t the point is it. The Marlinga’s like the Levin’s are a rat family that has been a pathogen in Mi politics for decades. When one goes two more pop up.
Is Marlinga in this country legally? What’s his racist problem with skin color?
He was acquitted in a County where he used to be prosecutor, and also was until recently quite blue. This was a place Trump changed, although the years of corruption under Democrat rule pushed it too.
He was only 3/5 black enough to suit the Democrat....
I think the following would be a funny and effective ad.
James runs an ad IDENTICAL to Marlinga’s, except
He moves the words to where they call Marlinga too extremist, and
He has his photo normal, but changes Marlinga’s to where he looks like an Albino!
HAHAHA...
That would bring laser-like intensity on Marlinga’s tactic here, make him look like a fool.
His campaign may not think it would be in good taste, and I understand that.
Maybe some independent PAC can do it.
How about he transitions into a baby stealing white walker from Game of Thrones?
Like they did to Trump’s orange skin? I always said it was the make-up person that was a closet D.
