The New York Times on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI, the company behind popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, accusing the pair of copyright infringement and abusing the newspaper's intellectual property to train large language models...In a court filing, the publisher said it seeks to hold Microsoft and OpenAI to account for "billions of dollars in statutory and actual damages..."

Now this is interesting, and depending on the outcome may have huge implications to AI technology.
What sort of damages is the NY Times claiming? Would anyone whose published copyrighted works that are gobbled up and regurgitated by a bot have a case?
Using the NYT to train AI?
We obviously have nothing to expect from AI except lies, poor logic, proof of low IQ and no morality whatsoever. Sort of like the White House quota spoxidiot.
We all knew that AI was just spouting leftist garbage.
This lawsuit’s discovery should prove it.
THis is interesting... this is the same argument when the internet first hit. Writers of books were saying that when digitized versions came out that putting clickable links and so on was a copyright infringement.. Writers were arguing that the links and other things change the intent. It was a huge argument back in the early 1990’s. Obviously, big tech won. As they will here. You cannot stop progress, if that’s what you consider it.
New York Times might get a payday, but it cannot stop AI from using its material. It won’t just be ChatGPT. Google, Amazon, Apple, IBM, and major companies like retailers and airlines will have their own variations.
This will be like Paramount trying to stop Star Trek fans from posting copyrighted images on-line. Utterly hopeless.
Did I tell you that I own the letter ‘E’?
I read a few of their articles, and may quote them in conversation.

Just wait until the AI’s themselves learn to browse. I’ll bet they even figure out how to get around paywalls and ad blocker restrictions!
