Multiple Pizza Hut franchises in California are planning to lay off delivery drivers as the restaurant chain braces for an increase in the minimum wage for fast food workers next year.
Several Pizza Hut operators filed notices to comply with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act saying they were discontinuing their delivery services.
“PacPizza, LLC, operating as Pizza Hut, has made a business decision to eliminate first-party delivery services and, as a result, the elimination of all delivery driver positions,” a federal WARN Act notice filed by the fast-food operator with the state’s Employment Development Department said, Business Insider reported.
Another operator, Southern California Pizza Co. also announced layoffs of around 841 drivers across the state. The moves impact Pizza Hut locations in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties. …

Proving once again that the true “minimum wage” is zero.
Now those drivers can spend more time with their families instead of slaving for a rich corporation for peanuts...
The good thing about the $20.00 wage is that it ends tipping.
The usual result
“It comes to $3 a month for nine-plus years of service.”
Didn’t you already get paid for those years bozo?
The left’s end goal in Cali is to close all fast food restaurants.
When does California build the wall to prevent the brain drain currently in progress?
The delivery driver jobs will be outsourced to a third party app.
The franchises will have their customers use the tech companies GrubHub and DoorDash instead, which of course satisfies the big tech donors to the Dims in California.
That and nothing like having more unemployed government dependents.
Basic Economics 101 and 102 - laws of supply and demand at work. Break ‘em you lose.
Forced wages up, supply of jobs, companies, and goods go down. That is why Government Command and Control Economies (so-called “Socialism”) end up with empty shelves at the supermarket and empty cupboards in homes.
Duh!
FREEDOM WORKS!!! GOVERNMENT COERCION NEVER WORKS!!!
Next.
it is sad because delivery service (whether pizzas or other things) is an honest way to earn money, and something we need (even though yes, we could get by without pizza...)
I have great respect for delivery people and the folks who flipped my burger for today’s lunch. They work, sometimes it can be fairly hard work...and they provide useful services. When we had an health problem in the house, the grocery delivery was absolutely a godsend. Same when our friend across town needed some medicines and such from the pharmacy, the delivery service was almost essential.
if the California politicians price delivery service out of the market, the workers will (some of them, anyway) wind up on the damned welfare...and the rest of the citizens will just have to drive and burn more gasoline more...
Correct. DoorDash, GrubHub and Uber Eats are specifically mentioned.
so they can open government run soup kitchens using unpaid Voluntaries
exactly......
Who delivers pizza for NINE years!?
I worked many decades at a non profit Catholic hospital....I got zilch when I finally retired...I left lots of sick time and in retrospect I should have been more conniving and just be sick for several months before retirement...
Inflation takes another toll.
I don’t ever do delivery unless I absolutely cannot leave the house.
It takes longer, tastes worse and costs more.
Why not, pizza delivery is a great 2nd job or one job for someone who only wants to work maybe 2 days a week.
