A Philadelphia suburb school district issued a memo instructing employees to remove Christmas-themed decorations and attire, following complaints from parents.
The district later clarified that holiday displays are not banned, but employees should aim to create an inclusive environment.
“As per Dr. Marseille” — Wagner Marseille, the superintendent of the Wallingford-Swathmore School District — “he has been receiving complaints from parents concerning District employees displaying ‘Christmas’ themed decorations and/or wearing clothing of the same nature,” the memo read.
“If you have decorated your bus with anything specific to the Christmas Holiday or any other decorations relating to a specific religion, please remove them immediately,” the memo added.
“In addition, employees are not instructed to wear clothing related to Christmas or any other religious holiday,” it said.
“Friday night, the district clarified their intent and said their initial message was ‘not clear,’” the Philadelphia station wrote.
“They went on to say holiday displays are not banned, but all employees should remember to create an ‘inclusive environment,’” it said.
This later led to controversy and criticism on social media.

Do they complain about others? I know they would complain about Hanukkah, but Eid? Diwali? Pride? I have a feeling it would be deemed “inclusive” to be forced to participate in those celebrations, and bigoted to decline.
They are only outraged about “Christian” holidays.

It’s not going to hurt anyone. It’s a safe holiday, not something like Juneteenth, where you have to be sure to leave the festivities before the sun goes down, and the unsavory types come out to “do business”.
I never understand this business about being inclusive.
Why is it somehow inclusive to not mention the Christmas holiday? Why is it inclusive to not mention specific holidays?
Wouldn’t it be most inclusive to specifically mention Christmas, Hanukkah, and any other holidays that happen this time of year?
