The Supreme Court of the United States will not immediately hear former President Donald Trump’s case for presidential immunity, siding with Trump, who argued the court should reject Special Counsel Jack Smith’s request for a speedy review and decision.
The high court on Friday declined Smith’s request for a quick review, meaning that the case will go through the normal process in the appeals court and likely make its way to the SCOTUS from there.
This is a significant victory for Trump and a major setback for Smith, who is racing against the clock to put Trump on trial in front of a heavily Democrat jury before the election.

I might sound overoptimistic, but this also shows the Supreme Court probably has very serious doubts about the whole frivolous concept that Trump should be excluded from ballots because he "committed insurrection" on and around January 6.
That's his law clerk who prepared the Supreme Court filing there on the left.
Jack Smith has a prime directive and only one job. He must convict Trump by any means necessary in that kangaroo court before November 7, 2024. his life will not be as charmed as his idol, Stalin’s chief prosecutor in the Moscow show trials, Andrey Vyshinsky. The Left is not very forgiving. Nor is Trump.

😂👍
And Roberts punts as he did in 2020 because he knows it would be 5-4 for Trump.
1. The USSC thinks he's a lousy POS who doesn't understand the judicial process AT ALL;
2. It's a huge signal to Smith that should the case make it up to the USSC, he's going to lose;
3. Emphasis on "should the case make it up to the USSC" is because Smith was never confirmed by the House as a Special Prosecutor, and therefore has about as much legal authority to bring any charges against Legit President Trump as my goldfish does.
To me this seems like SCOTUS dodged the issue and kicked the can down the road.
In my humble opinion they could have / should have taken the case and ruled in Trump’s favor.
But I am not very knowledgeable about intricate constitutional legalities.
Could someone here with that kind of expertise explain why this was not SCOTUS dodging the issue?
Here’s a somewhat fictionalized clip of the arrest of Beria. The guy who played Marshal Zhukov steals the show.

Jack’s under more stress than Nancy’s forehead. Fun to watch.
I was thinking the same thing.
I hope someone responds to you inquiry.
Does this include the GA case as well?
It’s going to go like this:
SCOTUS: So, are you familiar with the Special Counsel statute?
Smith: Yes, Justice Alito.
SCOTUS: And you understand that any action brought by the government is dependent on that statute being fully realized.
Smith: Ah, yes, certainly, Justice Alito, it comports.
SCOTUS: So what would you call any action brought by the government which acts under color of authority but in fact is purveyed by someone who is not eligible to be a special counsel? Isn’t that fraud?
Smith: Well, Justice Alito, that seems theoretical.
SCOTUS: Is it? So you see yourself as having taken this role in full compiance and eligibility with the statute?
Smith: (coughs) Ah, the government requests a recess.
Jack Smith can’t jump past state courts and go straight to the USSC. That’s not the proper procedure.
Why did he do it? He knows procedure well what the hell are they up to then? There was nothing to gain here by bypassing the other courts. Something stinks here….doesn’t seem right. They knew the outcome…there’s more here than meets the eye! EVIL SOB’s!! Be ready for more surprises tomorrow…they want trump and family to have a miserable Christmas and New Year’s Day! THEY ARE EVVVVIIILLL and from the pit of hell!
Why do you have to insult Darth Vader like that. Smith isfa4 more evil.
Presidential immunity would help Biden as much as Trump.
It's not a state case; it's federal case in progress in district court, though now paused pending appeals. The premise of the case was appealed to the DC Circuit, and Jack Smith tried to short-circuit that with an appeal directly to SCOTUS (kind of signalling that he expected to lose in the DC Circuit). Unusual but theoretically not improper.
