Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) vowed Monday to work to block the $14.9 billion sale of U.S. Steel Corp. to Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel, which he described as an “outrageous” move.
The deal was announced Monday, prompting the stock prices of U.S. Steel to jump up 25 percent. Fetterman criticized the sale, saying in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that the move was “wrong for workers and wrong for Pennsylvania.”

I don’t know about that. Fetterman is a bit of a loose cannon and he says a lot of things the Left doesn’t like. I’m beginning to think he may have been the more conservative choice over crypto-Oprah Dr. Oz after all.

Fetterman *might* have a point here. Certain companies are vital to our national security. For example, Electric Boat in Connecticut makes submarines for the Navy. Electric Boat should not be owned by any foreign nation.

Didn’t Truman call out the guard on a strike under the pretext that commerce (I believe it was a rail strike) was a matter of national security? I suspect the same rationale could be used for USS and GM....

US Steel doesn’t make anything truly vital to American security. No armor plating, they aren’t producers of steel for ships or submarines I’m aware of and their number one product is cold roll steel.
That’s appliances and cars. They still have a pipe mill I believe.
The days of them being the builders of bridges, skyscrapers, overpasses and rail from coast to coast have been gone for 30+ years.
