The Local Government Revenue Recapture Act, is a law that allows cities, counties, and the state’s hundreds of different taxing bodies to “reacapture” their “lost” revenue [tax appeals] and also to shift the higher tax burden from the disappearing business property taxes to home owners, causing a near 30 percent jump in some cases in the burden on the state’s families.
The act allows state taxing bodies to take the amount they “lost” to appeals refunds, total that up, and then just raise taxes that amount, effectively nullifying the appeals decisions and acting as a yearly new stealth, backdoor tax hike.

Absolutely correct, that is what the McPherson County, KS appraiser told me.
You’ve burned through the acid, Frack; and you’re now into the serious stuff.
Was it Chinese stuff that came across the border with the cartels? Be careful with that stuff, Frack; there are all kinds of harrowing reports about it. Be sure to let us know...well, not tomorrow, because you’re apt to be comatose; but, maybe by the weekend you’ll be stirring?
Tick-tock
“The turd that won’t flush...”
Frack, we know you sexualize pretty near everything. But, you’re segueing into the scatological now. I hear there are professional who can address your “interests.”
And, Frack: Don’t put anything into your arm. We don’t want you going Lenny Bruce on us.
Illinois government wrote into law that the taxpayer is on the hook for whatever taxes need to be gathered to reach a specific amount.
Why the voters in that state allow this and worse to occur escapes me.
You get what you voted for“
The state is held hostage by the idiots in Chicago. Illinois is exactly what the country would be without the Electoral College.
It’s up to the individual counties.
“Illinois is exactly what the country would be without the Electoral College.”
Pretty much so.
Only one?
Makes sense, though - the smart professionalS have fled the Land O' Blinken.
The Sparky shares his personal experiences with us.
How touching.
Typo, Frack.
I’m actually surprised you caught that, Frack (I caught it as soon as hit the “Post” button; but, of course, by that time it was too late). When the really serious stuff kicks in, Frack, make sure you have 9-1-1 on speed dial.
Nice try, Frack. But, I’ve seen the damage that @#$% causes. Hell, just look around you. Oh, but of course, you do that, anyway; and see it firsthand whenever you look in the mirror.
City, county and state taxing agencies, of which there are apparently hundreds, and these agencies took advantage of this law.
Shifting the burden of disappearing business property tax revenues to home owners is particularly odious, IMO.
My home value has gone up 185% in three years according to the tax accessor.. I lost the appeal as expected.

Oh, I agree.
I’m in kind of a unique situation here. My wife is an invalid (end-stage COPD). A physical move would literally kill her.
She’s comfortable here; her friends are here; her doctors and respiratory therapists are here. So, we’ll stay.
IL property taxes are already so high that a couple years ago my cousin from CA thought my Mom’s property tax on Mom’s quite average home in IL was “insane”, to quote my cousin.
90 plus out of 102 or so counties are “normal”. Metro Chicago and it’s scum are beyond salvation. I’m sweating everything now...increased already preposterous real estate taxes, registering semi-autos before Jan. 1 pending court decision, etc. All in all a horseshit state.
That is, unfortunately, becoming all too common.
I think there are two reasons for this gouging: (1) The voracious bastards are hungry, but their hunger is too great to be sated; (2) They want to drive as many people as possible into multi-family bee hives.
Those 90 counties may be “normal” but the property taxes in those 90 are still already “insane”, to quote my cousin from CA (see my post 57, above).
