I think I would have preferred the Ukrainians make prisoners of war out of them and turn them over to their Army.
Poisoning soldiers morally is akin to Auschwitz Gas Chambers for women and children as far as I am concerned. Or babies in ovens.

It's tradition that Russian soldiers die in wartime from poisoned hootch. In Afghanistan, Gorby was trying to enforce a "no booze" policy so the soldiers drank concoctions made from methanol, anti-freeze, hydraulic fluid, gun cleaning solvent and shoe polish, and died in the doing.
The usual recipe was to filter it through a loaf of bread into an upturned helmet, then add a handful of raisins and leave it in the sun for a week.
