JAKARTA, Indonesia – Indonesia’s Marapi volcano in the West Sumatra province erupted on Sunday, sending a thick plume of toxic ash and smoke nearly 10,000 feet into the air and was accompanied by a deafening roar that could be heard for miles, according to the country’s disaster management agency.

Indonesia’s National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) said in a news release that the nearly 9,500-foot volcano began erupting just before 3 p.m. local time Sunday, and volcanic ash rain from the eruption was reported to have occurred in the Nagari Lasi area of the Canduang District in West Sumatra’s Agam Regency.

“Climate committee holds meeting how can we blame humans and the oil companies for this.”

No. This will be the excuse when global warming doesn’t happen.

Prayers for those climbers. This disaster, and also the White Island event in New Zealand, shows the risks of going anywhere near an active volcano.

How does this one compare to Pinatubo?

There had to be warning signs it was getting ready to let go.

What the heck were climbers doing there?

And if they don’t make it, they have no one to blame but themselves.

I hope the climbers are ok. However, who goes mountain climbing on a volcanic mountain that is ready to blow? Sheesh.

It’s a smaller eruption than Pinatubo. However it is closer to the Equator by a factor of 2. The closer to the equator the greater the particulates getting held aloft in the ITCZ, the convergence region of the hemispheric wind directions on either side of the equator

I’d rather have Bill Gates go into the volcano first. He’s much more destructive.

I agree with you. And, for years, I have said that global warming is unproven, and that a new Ice Age is greatly to be feared.

That is a hard truth. They had no business being there

They died doing what they loved, if what they loved was being suffocated by volcanic ash and gases.
