French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the COP28 summit on Friday as world leaders gathered in Dubai for the second day of UN climate talks.
Macron urged G7 nations at UN climate talks on Friday to set an example to other countries and "commit to putting an end to coal" by 2030.
Speaking at COP28 in Dubai, Macron said investing in coal was "truly an absurdity".

We had a coal furnace when I was a kid...and this was in a big city. Sure beat my dad sawing wood in the backyard. Winters were brutal in Upstate.

The difference with India is if they didn’t turn to coal and they ended up making the people suffer, there are a great many there who would go after their leaders. Politicians in the US have no such concerns.
AFAIC, there’s no better heat than from an anthracite coal burning heater. Burns pretty clean with less sulfur and other particles in bituminous coal and has a lot of energy in a dense and compact form.
I remember my grandpa’s house had a pot-belly stove that heated the house and when I lived in England in the early 70s I had a similar set up in my house. Loved it.
