House and Senate conservatives on Wednesday sounded the alarm on a potential move by congressional leadership to extend a deep state surveillance law in a defense bill.
“Reauthorization of FISA can’t be hooked to anything. The federal GOV has spied on Americans [who] decided to go to Church or you went to a school board meeting. This needs to end. Reauthorization needs to stand on its own, and have significant reform,” House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) said during a press conference with the House Freedom Caucus and Senate conservatives.
The conservatives held their press conference as congressional leaders are contemplating passing a temporary extension of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which conservatives vehemently oppose.
Breitbart News reported that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) opposes any extension of Section 702 in the NDAA.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said there is “no reason” for a temporary authorization of Section 702. […]
Many conservatives joined progressives on a letter spearheaded by Reps. Warren Davidson (R-OH) and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), calling on Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and other congressional leaders not to include a FISA authorization in the NDAA. …

Filthy Democrat statists and marxists had no problem giving the intel agencies automatic power.
Who signed the FISA re-authorization act into law in 2018?
No deals. Just vote no.
now we’ll see Johnson is up to it (i pray he is). either that or we’ll find out just who they own in the uniparty.
On the one hand, we need the ability to do electronic surveillance to defend the nation, but handing that power to the American Left is like giving the keys to the Corvette to a drunken teenager.
It was mis-used to ruin a presidency...time to get rid of it.....for good.Give Block Grants to the states to fight terrorism.YOu can't reform the FBI with this law left on the books.
Too many Congress critters want to save their precious hydes and rich gravy train from public scrutiny and comment. What better way to keep them at bay than a secret system of “justice?”
Deep State needs to be dissolved.
The uniparty is built on the 17th Amendment.
The Senior Executive Service is your deep state.
Both need to go away..
“Filthy Democrat statists and marxists had no problem giving the intel agencies automatic power.”
And the RINOs won’t either like the last 20 times. Johnson will fail again and push passage of some sort of hodgepodge CR.
NDAA and appropriations [including CRs] are two very different things.
A power that needs constant safeguards to prevent abuses is a power that should not exist.
Thomas Paine stated it clearly in his pamphlet Common Sense
“How came the King by a power which the People are afraid to trust, and always obliged to check? Such a power could not be the gift of a wise people,”
Hey- That’s a trick question. LOL
Re: 4 - you’ll get mostly crickets, just like with the bump stock ban. One poster tried to sat the latter was due to Speaker Paul Ryan.
Silly statement. Governments are power by definition, and every form of power can be abused. The whole genius of the Constitution our Founders wrote was to safeguard against abuses by fragmenting that power so that each branch can ride herd on the others. Not perfect, but it worked pretty well for 200 years. Maybe we can restore it. I hope.
