Well who’da thought?
Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts and don’t have to deal with a hundred or more little explosions per second. The electric cars should be more reliable.
Where they fail is as a family vacation car where you pack two adults and two children and all their luggage into the car, and expect it to travel 1,000 miles round trip without any issues.

My 25 year old SUV is about to pass 250,000 and aside from rattles and a leaky injector it is still running well. Will there be 25 year old EVs??? Ever???
How is CR funded ?
If Tesla would replace the motor / battery setup for a decent V-6 and 20 gallon tank, they’d have a pretty good car.
“Consumers reported electric drive motors, charging and EV batteries had the most common issues”
isn’t that pretty much the entire drive train?
“It’s only the “electric” parts of the vehicle”
exactly: the entire drive train ... parts like the steering wheel, windshield wipers and so forth were OK ...
“And Consumer Reports is partially funded by the Ford Foundation. Hmmmmmm.”
uh, Ford has staked it’s future on EVs ...
“What was curious is that Lexus was more expensive to own/maintain than Toyota. Same goes for Acura vs Honda and Infinity vs Nissan.”
actually, that’s to be expected since these premium “luxury” vehicles use additional specialized parts to implement the “luxury” features, and also are sold in much lower volume than their common cousins, and therefore parts manufacture, storage and distribution have to be amortized over a smaller number of vehicles ... the above is true for ALL “luxury” vehicles, and the more expensive the vehicle, the more expensive the maintenance ...
Consumer Reports is funded by its subscription sales to it magazine and website. Plus grantmaking organizations such as the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and Craig Newmark Philanthropies.
But they are great for sitting in the Starbucks line.
Bugs like "how do you eliminate the efficiency loss in electric conversion?" among other physical impossibilities.
Hmmm. My wife’s car ran low on transmission fluid so it stopped moving. This summer we had to do the brakes. Now it needs a timing belt and a water pump. We have had to change the oil 3 times this year. I have to drive her to the mechanic to drop off and pick up her car. My car had to get a new accessory battery last December. I haven’t taken it for any kind of service since then.
“...The annual car reliability survey by Consumer Reports found EVs are 79 percent more likely to have problems than conventional cars. Consumers reported electric drive motors, charging and EV batteries had the most common issues associated with EVs, according to the survey....”
“...Plug-in hybrids are more likely to have more issues than gas-powered cars, EVs and hybrid vehicles. The survey said that plug-in hybrids have 146 percent more problems than gas-powered cars....”
The electric car: 190 years old and still not ready for prime time.
Ford Foundation Announces Plan to End Investments in Fossil Fuels
My microwave stopped working last evening after just 2.5 years.
Started to make a loud noise and I could smell an electrical smell.
Imagine a electric car having a battery or two or a thousand shorting out....
I doubt the electric car battery is made any better then a common microwave oven.
