THE KEY TO FAILURE

I recently read a devotion in God's Little Devotional Book for Women, which really touched my life. This book was copyrighted in 1996 by Honor Books, Inc. in Tulsa Oklahoma. The story on pages 98 and 99 tells of a painter who wanted to produce one work which would please everyone. So she painted a picture, and hung it in the public marketplace. She posted directions for people to mark the places they did not like with a small paint brush. She was surprised when she returned to find her picture was just a blob.

So, the next day, she took another copy of the painting and asked people to mark the places they liked. By the afternoon, the picture was exactly the same blob. The artist concluded, "I now believe the best way to please one-half of the world is not to mind what the other half thinks or says."

People always have an opinion about what we say or do, and the key to failure is to try to please everyone. The key to success, on the other hand, is to live according to God's opinions...those spelled out in the Bible. Then we will not fret over the opinions of others.

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other." (Matthew 6:24)

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Good evening, radu...hope you have had a relaxing Saturday.

Most of the day has been above freezing with some rain. More rain is expected...then some snow. Glad I have nowhere I need to go.

Howdy, Kathy.

Yes, it’s been a pretty low-key day today. I did gas up the car this afternoon so something, at least, was accomplished. LOL

For a little while, I thought you might end up with a pretty day. The sun wanted to break out but the clouds just wouldn’t cooperate. A few tiny drops showed up on the Lake Hood cam’s housing a little while ago but that seems to have stopped for now.

It was pretty nice here. 60 with some high, thin clouds. Hoping for some rain tomorrow with the cold front that moves through. They aren’t predicting much for us but we’ll take what we can get.

My fuel-up on Friday was the extent of my Black Friday spending.

I spent much less today.

A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours. Hope you get some rain.

I really, really hate rain in the winter. It always make ice, which I hate even worse if I have to go out.

November 26

Who Am I?

Bible in a Year:

But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?

1 Chronicles 29:14

As a member of the leadership team for a local ministry, part of my job was to invite others to join us as group discussion leaders. My invitations described the time commitment required and outlined the ways leaders would need to engage with their small group participants, both in meetings and during regular phone calls. I was often reluctant to impose on other people, being aware of the sacrifice they’d be making to become a leader. And yet sometimes their reply would completely overwhelm me: “I’d be honored.” Instead of citing legitimate reasons to decline, they described their gratitude to God for all He’d done in their lives as their reason for being eager to give back.

When the time came to give resources toward building a temple for God, David had a similar response: “Who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?” (1 Chronicles 29:14). David’s generosity was driven by gratitude for God’s involvement in his life and that of the people of Israel. His response speaks of his humility and his acknowledgment of His goodness toward “foreigners and strangers” (v. 15).

Our giving to God’s work—whether in time, talent, or treasure—reflects our gratitude to the One who gave to us to begin with. All that we have comes from His hand (v. 14); in response, we can give gratefully to Him. .

Reflect & Pray

How has God been involved in your life? How can you give in response?

Dear Father, please help me to respond to Your love and care with a generous heart.

I didn’t leave the house yesterday. LOL I avoid the crazies and stay home all through Thanksgiving weekend. The only reason I gassed up the car today was because it was warm. The gas station is only a mile away so little driving involved. Monday, when I usually venture back out, is going to be cold and very windy and I’ll sit that one out. BRRRRR
I’m a wuss when it comes to cold weather. :-)
