It doesn’t appear this appeal was based on the fact that Chauvin didn’t kill Floyd, fentanyl did... this one was based on pre-trial publicity.

Either there is a legal reason not to deal with it at this time, or they learned their lesson with Roe V Wade.

They don’t want to be responsible for a new round of riots and looting.
Easier to just let one scapegoat rot in prison.

But, yes…. I agree. Cowardly

“The justices did not comment in leaving in place state court rulings affirming Chauvin’s conviction and 22 1/2-year sentence. “

Agree completely. People call this court “conservative” but it is not. It has three radical leftists, two solid conservatives and then four wishy washies (Roberts, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett). In my opinion, Roberts has been the worst Chief Justice in the Court’s history.

Chauvin’s lawyers argued that their client was denied a fair trial in 2021 because of pretrial publicity and concerns for violence in the event of an acquittal.

His lawyers are right. But they're gonna have to find other ways of getting this innocent man off.

Watch The Fall of Minneapolis and ask yourself why is this man in prison?

This supreme court and “Justice” Roberts made themselves irrelevant the day they upheld Obama care. I remember listening to Rush the day the ruling came out and I was absolutely dumbfounded. Since then this supreme court and their rulings have meant *ICK to me. They have zero guts.

Sorry to hear this, especially in light of new evidence that’s come out proving Officer Chavin didn’t kill George Floyd.

The Supremes, I believe, were trying to prevent cities from burning to the ground - facts, data and hard evidence don’t matter to BLM looters and anti-fa.

The Supremes also know THEY could personally be targeted for protests and possible violence as happened to Kavanaugh and Roberts:

May, 2022:

“On Saturday, people gathered in the rain outside Kavanaugh’s home in Chevy Chase, Maryland, according to organizing group Shutdown DC. It said on Twitter that about 100 protesters showed up outside his home and that of Roberts.”

Agreed. We should not interpret this as SCOTUS saying "Chauvin was guilty. Get over it." SCOTUS specifically said the negative publicity angle is a no-go for Chauvin.

Unrelated to your post, but about the original article, it's one of those bonehead AP articles that capitalizes black but not white.

People get hung up in current affairs. For example when Bubba was Prez a lot of people on FR would say he was the worst prez. No way he ever topped Wilson or LBJ. It’s hard to be dispassionate some times. No way is Roberts the worst CJ.

Yes, pre-trial publicity is usually only considered in change of venue cases. I remember in the Juan Corona trials back in the 70s, pre-trial publicity was brought up after the initial trial and they did get a new trial based partly on that... result was the same.

IMHO, instead of pre-trial publicity, Chauvin might have had a chance with SCOTUS on the angle of BLM’ers threatening violence to jurors and the city if they gave the “wrong” verdict.
