Zelensky: The West’s deliveries of artillery shells have really slowed down

Volodymyr Zelensky said deliveries of key artillery shells to Ukraine from its Western allies have “really slowed down” since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.

The Ukrainian president said he would “defend what is ours” after the decline in supply of 155mm artillery shells, which are also used by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) against Hamas.

Despite assurances from Joe Biden, the US president, that American support for Israel would not impact aid for Ukraine, deliveries of supplies earmarked for Mr Zelensky’s forces have reportedly been redirected to Tel Aviv in recent weeks.

Right on the tail of North Korea delivering some 1 million artillery shells... hmmm. It seems that yet again, the “West” is intentionally stretching out this war. A war that could have been completely avoided with a different US President in office. A war that could have been ended quickly had aid been shipped in an even remotely timely way. A war that could have been squashed had sufficient and effective weapons been delivered before now.

They are doing what they can - they just don’t have the current capability (or even manpower) to crank up a full weapons manufacturing program.

It seems that the only thing that Zelenskyy is really good at is traveling the globe with his hand out.

We should have been sending all those to the IDF instead of the laundromat

I’ve seen several reports indicating this is not so. The slowed delivery of shells from NATO is related to the fact that NATO countries decided they all had to be sourced from NATO. But the NATO countries have not signed long term purchase agreements which would enable the suppliers to buy additional capacity. Therefore, the suppliers are maxed out at a lower delivery rate. NATO promised a million shells by March but admit they won’t make it.

As for Israel, they are not using large quantities of artillery shells as they are too indiscriminate. They are using small diameter bombs. Early reports said the US was going to send their reserve stocks of 155 being held in Israel. I haven’t seen anything indicating that has changed.

Of course, none of us can definitely say one way or the other but this article conflicts with a lot of others from a variety of sources.

If Joe Biden would just Conscript the blood relatives between the age of 17-35 of every last employee in the Executive Branch, including all agencies and give them 2 weeks training before sending them to the Front Lines in Ukraine, this war would be over in 3 weeks.

The only thing that is floating the Ukrainian resistance is the prolific and indiscriminate use of western supplied weapons systems like there is an inexhaustible supply that borders on squandering assets.

No Western military would blow through ammo this rapidly and carelessly

The Ukrainians don’t give a darn because they get as many of them as they wish for free and it’s really the only life line that is keeping them from being over run.

Their political supporters in the west are down with the waste because it generates orders for new weapons production and they hate American military power anyway.

To many in the Biden Admin the situation in Ukraine is an opportunity for unilateral disarmament of the US military by expending munitions we will never have the funds to replace

Indeed. The USA may (or may not) still be a moral country, but our government certainly is NOT. Ukraine has been put into the meat grinder, and will ultimately be destroyed and cease to exist.

Why? For the arrogance and strategic fantasies of neocons hoping to diminish Russia, the corruption of Democrats clinging to power, and the profit-skimming of the deep-state and its cronies.

That’s because Ukraine won and Putin is dead. Or something.

It seems you may have uncovered a technical reason the delivery of artillery shells has slowed, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the real one.

As for Israel, they are not using large quantities of artillery shells as they are too indiscriminate. They are using small diameter bombs.

My personal experience with Israelis is that they are very discriminate and precise in these type of operations, so your assessment seems correct.

Additionally, Zelensky is a lying sack of crap and I don't believe anything he says.

Would it also be accurate to say we are lacking the will to embark on a crash course of emergency manufacturing of these artillery shells and other weapons? I have not noticed any “first man to the moon” type program efforts being made to achieve these goals of weapons numbers. Short of that of course it will fail.

I believe I heard that USA can manufacture 20,000 artillery rounds per month and Ukraine goes through 60,000 per month.

So if we have a real war, we’re screwed.

Nice.
