Four seats held by progressives were won by candidates running on an anti-crime platform. Two others are still up for grabs, with another vacancy to be filled next year by the next City Council. Including Councillor-at-large Sara Nelson, who wasn’t up for a vote this year, moderates will now hold at least five of nine seats on what was arguably the most progressive City Council in America before this vote.
Joy Hollingsworth campaigned on hiring more police and beat progressive Alex Hudson 53% to 47%. The seat was formerly held by radical socialist Kshama Sawant.
Rob Saka campaigned on “bringing our police back to full capacity and staffing levels” and defeated progressive Maren Costa 54% to 45%. He’ll replace Lisa Herbold, who had sought a legal pass for misdemeanors committed under the “duress” of poverty or substance abuse. Cathy Moore won in a rout over progressive ChrisTiana ObeySumner, who opposed prosecuting drug use. Incumbent Andrew Lewis, who had voted to cut police funding, conceded to moderate Bob Kettle.
One incumbent who held his seat is Dan Strauss, who voted in favor of a 2022 city budget that cut police funding for a second year in a row. But in campaign mailers this year Mr. Strauss admitted that “defund the police was a mistake,” and he defeated challenger Pete Hanning 52% to 47%.

Amazing...Seattle is electing moderates into office? Must be something in the Starbucks... 🤓
These cities are going to have to get really rough with people to clean them up. Not sure they have the stomach for it.
Progressives take a hit......dont you love good news?

Let’s see if Seattle leads the way to sanity on the city level.
Hope so.
I live in a small city in Maryland. We just had our Council election. There’s a democrat majority in the city and as long as I’ve lived here, democrats have held a majority of the Council seats, although we have a strong conservative as Mayor. For the first time in memory, we now have a Republican majority. I suspect there are many areas like that. Not a red wave but certainly a high tide.
They’re still all democrats
Like most, if not all, American cities, it’s a one-party polity.
They are DINOs or closet Republicans. Because of the 1-party nature.
“They’re still all democrats”
Right, things are pretty bleak when Freepers are considering a Democratic sweep good news. Lol
Think Supreme Court
Think two parties

Dumb comment
The problems in these centers of chaos is not so much having less police, it’s letting the police do their jobs and then prosecuting the law breakers. Since progressives don’t have a clue about how wealth is created, they have delusional aims for governing that are ill-fed by emotion as opposed to pragmatism. Governments run on wealth confiscated from the private sector. If the progressives in government run off the wealth creators where will they get the wealth to confiscate? The progressives always move to higher tax rates on what’s left. Of course, the just makes it more attractive for the wealth creators to leave than stay. There’s a serious disconnect here.
It will take at least 5 years of tough on crime / drugs / vagrants to turn the city around. But this is how they start.
Very true, at least 5 years. Unfortunately, far too many people expect rapid changes, and when that doesn’t happen they go back to their old voting habits.
I’m just glad they got rid of that Indian witch Kshama Sawant. She was an actual Socialist, although I’d say she was more communist than anything else.
