TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey first lady Tammy Murphy on Wednesday launched a bid for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in next year’s contest.
Her candidacy, announced Wednesday, puts her in the running to become the first woman elected to the Senate from New Jersey. The Democratic primary already features Rep. Andy Kim and could include Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, who has lost significant party support amid federal bribery charges but has not ruled out a run in 2024.
“We need a senator who will work every single day to lower the cost of living, protect abortion rights, end the gun violence epidemic, and defend our democracy,” she said in a roughly four-minute-long video posted online.
Murphy, 58, is a constant at events alongside her husband, Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, and has taken on maternal and infant health and the environment as her top issues during her time as first lady — issues she highlighted in her announcement.

When Murphy was the first Dem to call publicly for his resignation, it should have been obvious.
Mrs. Murphy actually said that.

I can’t think of a more perfect U.S. Senator for the state of New Jersey than Karen Murphy.
Her qualifications are waking up next to the Gov. Could Hillary say that?
Looks like the making of a Biden-like monopoly on family graft and corruption in New Jersey.
Compared to her policies, Newark looks beautiful.
1. Abortion rights are now in each state's hands. Senators have nothing to do with it anymore.
2. Unless she wants to deport 13% of the population, there is nothing that can be done about "gun violence."
All these Democrat women, look like rodents.
It pains me to say it but she is a shoe in for the job.
1) she is a democrat so all the drones in places like Hudson County, Essex County, Paterson, Middlesex County, Trenton, Camden and Atlantic City will cast votes for her whether they know it or not.
2) she is a woman so the mindless suburban women will crawl over broken glass to vote for a historic first female senator from NJ who is rabidly pro abortion. The married suburban women’s husbands will generally vote for the other guy.
3) she has name recognition….. she is a Murphy. Most people can’t stand her husband but will give her a chance because hey, she can’t be as bad as him.
Burlington County and Camden County also regularly vote Democrat - neither has voted GOP in a national election since 1988. Ditto rural Cumberland County for some reason.
😂. You would have thought that murf and turf might have managed to build up a pretty big pile of cash through various means by now. Guess not.
Sad to say that Andy Kim is the best option out of a sorry lot. The last ELECTED GOP Senator from NJ was Clifford Case, who was elected when my noble deceased father was a child in Newark.
