Speaker Johnson eyes funding Ukraine aid with seized Russian assets, calls it ‘pure poetry’
Washington Times ^ | November 11, 2023 | Alex Miller

Speaker Mike Johnson said that he would like to use billions in seized Russian assets to pay for President Biden’s Ukraine aid request.

Mr. Johnson’s pitch comes as the top House Republican already diverted from Mr. Biden’s $106 billion request by splitting Israel aid from the larger package that included aid spending for the Jewish state, Ukraine, Taiwan and spending on the U.S.-Mexico border to bolster the president’s catch and release policies.

House Republicans have increasingly shifted their stance on providing more aid to Ukraine, arguing that no more taxpayer dollars should flow to the war-beleaguered country until the Biden administration offers clear-cut objectives for the conflict.

Mr. Johnson of Louisiana told the New York Post that he’s interested in using the more than $300 billion in Russian assets seized after fighting began in the region to fund future Ukraine aid.

“It would be pure poetry to fund the Ukrainian war effort with Russian assets,” Mr. Johnson said. “As you can imagine, that idea has been met with great enthusiasm on the Republican side. I suspect it will be with our colleagues on the other side as well. It’s an eminently responsible thing for us to do.”

Speaking of Nazis, why is Canada still paying your most honored Nazi a pension?

What court was involved in the legality of seizing Russian assets?
Were both parties represented before a legal judgement was recorded?

Or is the US making all the rules for the “ rules based order”

Cause that’s sure why BRICS is growing

Mucousmaximus is off doing research on his scary foe Tucker Carlson and digging around to see if Putin is actually dead for real this time.

Canuck stays clear of any threads that speak of his nazified homeland.

I figure he probably agrees with Castro’s kid on most things.

I’m not looking at this wrong. Get this through your head: I don’t give a damn about Russia. I don’t give a damn about Ukraine. You moron neocons what to create problems all over the world. When Russia attacks America, I’ll give a damn. Same goes for Ukraine. You Zeepers don’t care about America’s problems at home, particularly immigration and fiscal problems. House Republicans came out with the estimated cost of illegal immigration just the other day. It was $451 billion per year. We don’t have that.

That’s why you should like Johnson’s idea

No American taxpayer funds are involved!

What court was involved when Russia illegally seized Crimea and parts of eastern Ukraine?

No wonder NATO keeps growing!

The bit that makes it unilateral is that it is the US alone that is deciding that it has the legal right to confiscate Russian property. We rely on and benefit from foreigners trusting the safety of parking their assets in the USA, so action like this will be detrimental to that in my estimation. Keep in mind that although the illegality and immorality of the Russian actions in Ukraine may be crystal clear to you, the vast majority of the rest of the world sees it differently, ranging from a little different to wildly different.

No, I think YOU are looking at this wrong. The U.S. has invaded and occupied more sovereign countries in my lifetime than the rest of the world combined.

That's where your analogy is flawed. Imagine the hypothetical case of your crazy old man where the judge in the case (i.e., the U.S. government) is even crazier than the old man and has caused more extensive damage in more frequent violent episodes than the defendant in his courtroom. The whole system of "justice" under these conditions will collapse entirely.

"You guys are all looking at this wrong."

Take your BS analogy and shove it. The fact that you have no problem with anybody's money being sent to fund yet another proxy war overseas, and being sent without any accountability where any of that money (or weapons) is ending up, tells me your priorities are screwed up. I'm sure my great-uncle, born in Fish Lake, Prince Edward County, Ontario in 1894, and died in France in WWI, fighting to keep his homeland free, is likely rolling over in his British Military grave in France, seeing the fascist regime that controls his country's government now.

You are the one that does not get it, you are not God to decide what is right or wrong when dealing with nations...we are talking about currency and reserve if any country thinks their money can be seized for any reason they will stop using the dollar period...as that is what is happening now...that will be the lasting damage from this Ukraine adventure....as other system will begin to gain steam.

Its like I control all physical laws like gravity and I decide I don’t like what you are doing to I am going to change what gravity is for you and not everyone else...some things should be immutable.

BOTTOM LINE - none of this would even be happening if Russia had just stayed inside its own borders, and developed its own vast lands

Russia has no one to blame but itself

A psychotic, paranoid old man, who repeatedly attacks his neighbors for no reason, falsely claims ownership of their properties and damages their properties, is liable for the damage he causes

every court would have no hesitation seizing his assets to pay for the unnecessary destruction the psycho caused

so it is here

gee, maybe Russia shouldn’t have attacked its neighbor for no reason, then this issue wouldn’t be coming up
