Speaker Mike Johnson to NYC: Dump ‘sanctuary’ policies to get migrant money

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Mike Johnson called on the Big Apple Thursday to scrap its “sanctuary” city status if it wants federal money to help house thousands of migrants pouring into the city.

In an exclusive and wide-ranging interview with The Post, the Louisiana Republican’s first with a major publication since seizing the gavel, Johnson said he was “certain” his fellow GOP lawmakers will stipulate a rollback of policies that restrict local police cooperation with federal immigration officials to deport migrants accused of serious crimes.

“I’m certain that will be one of our proposals, and it should,” the 51-year-old said.

President Biden has asked Congress to approve $1.4 billion for states and cities to fund shelter and services for migrants released at the US-Mexico border.

Mayor Eric Adams joined four other big-city mayors recently in asking for $5 billion.

“The idea that you would maintain a sanctuary city status and then cry out to the federal government for assistance in what you’ve done is, to me, unconscionable,” Johnson said.

“New York City Mayor Eric Adams cheered Joe Biden when he halted border wall construction in 2021, and had long claimed the Big Apple should be a “sanctuary” for illegal aliens – but his stance has shifted now conservative border states have begun busing migrants to him in large numbers.”

What is the second rule in a crisis situation? If you choose to bluff, you must be prepared to have your bluff called. Sanctuary City or the money? Which is it, Mayor Adams?

New York State & NYC need to learn an expensive lesson on their own money.

That would be the first thought.

However, the ones that can afford to move, the Democrats and Liberals of NYC, Wall St, etc...the ones that are the root cause of all of this bullsh*t...can afford to move and take their money with them. They’re moving to Long Island, Jersey, northern suburbs and SW Connecticut. Some, if they’re really lucky, can move completely out of the state to places like Florida. Where they will set about destroying that state and other areas.

So, at the end of the day, the only people that get screwed, AGAIN, is the middle class. Take away NYC, Albany, Rochester, Buffalo and maybe a few other places, and NY is as RED as any RED state you can point to on a map.

The shear fact that we spend a dime of federal or state taxpayer money assisting illegals is lunacy. Money for deportation? That’s different.

The only help that should be offered is offering to deport any illegals that the city wants to round up.

Exactly how many “serious” criminals will be deported in exchange for federal billions?

10?

20?

“According to a 2021 analysis by New York City Comptroller, it costs the city approximately $556,539 to detain one person for one year at Rikers Island.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rikers_Island

A phone call to USCIS would be far cheaper.

If they’re going down that road, for every $1.00 that NYC gets, Texas should get about $10,000!

They deliberately chose to create chaos. Let them bail themselves out. No money.

It’s a pretty good answer because it gives Eric Adams the option to fix the problem or hang himself.

Meanwhile thousands of Veterans are living on the streets....and their suicides is way above average for the rest of the population.
Illegals get 5 star hotels money and cellphone.
While or vets get cardboard boxes.
Biden also hired back all those that were tormenting and mistreating the VETS...WITH BACK PAY FOR TIME OUT AND A BONUS.....SPIT.

Agree but you don’t want to tell them that first. If you can have Adams first say no to ending the sanctuary this exposes them for not wanting to end the crisis and it was all about the money.

You have to put pressure on them and build up support first.
