The Marvels is anything but marvelous so far at the box office.
Based on Friday earnings of $21.5 million, the Marvel Studios and Disney superhero tentpole is headed for a domestic opening of $47 million to $52 million to rank as the worst start in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Marvels marks a new low for Kevin Feige‘s Marvel Studios, which for years was unrivaled in its success, and bolsters the theory that superhero fatigue is a real thing as fanboys grow weary of a glut of titles and are far less forgiving.
Until now, rival DC was the superhero studio that endured the biggest ups and downs, with a good number of its films opening to $50 million or less (in comparison, many MCU releases started with $100 million or more domestically). This summer, DC’s The Flash debuted to a dismal $55 million domestically on its way to topping out at a paltry $270.6 million globally.

I am looking forward to that one.
As thin as she is, I have to say I was impressed when I stumbled across a You Tube of her doing a one-arm pull up.
Oh, a bundle of twigs. 😂. I see what you did there.
No wonder Hollywood CEO’s want AI for writes it can’t be any worse.
No place to go except up.
I saw one of them. F&F should do a remake of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.”
As William F. Buckley said, “How can you tell?”
There was some interest in seeing a superhero brought to the screen for the first time and a movie with Robert Downey Jr. or Ryan Reynolds is likely to be a decent comedy, but I can’t see the point of doing everything to death like this. Once you know the basic pattern, there’s not enough variation to make the movies interesting.
Sometimes enough is enough. All these superpowers (and not so super-power in some cases) arrayed against another unstoppable villain. Endless mass-fighting scenes with jiggery camera shots, close-ins and ultimate carnage. It’s sensory overload, IMO.
It figures. DEI and all that.
If you are over the age of 15 and into comic book movies, you have a problem.
Superman (first) with Chris Reeves.
Perfectly blended with humor and suspense!
Must have a trans geneder gay or lesbian superhero in it
Agree — that was a good one.
Just maybe men don’t particularly seek out movies where women
expropriate what have been traditional masculine roles.
Then I’m not sure how big the female demand is for action movies.
So how many transgenders are there to pick up the slack?
Who thought this was a swell idea?
