On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) stated that U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Humanitarian Issues David Satterfield told him that Hamas does have tunnels under hospitals, but “when you have a hospital full of wounded people, it cannot be a target ever.”

It cannot be repeated too often that the obvious reading of Articles 28 and 29 of the Fourth Geneva Convention says Hamas is responsible for any civilian deaths in the areas they occupy. Those civilians qualify as Protected Persons within the terrorist’s physical control and cannot be used to render certain points and areas immune from military operations.
This is a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions and according to them that hospital is now a legitimate target and any civilian death are solely on Hamas.
It’s way past time to exterminate every last one of them and anyone who supports them.

It’s way past time to exterminate every last one of them and anyone who supports them.
By not exterminating the vermin, they only encourage more of this behavior thereby putting even more innocents at risks. The idiocy of their arguement not only undermines the Convention, but has the opposiste of the intended effect on those agreements. War criminals can be given no quarter.
No problem, just hit the tunnel RIGHT next to the hospital, if the hospital falls, so be it.
The Red Cross (or Red Crescent, or whatever) should send a convoy of ambulances to remove every patient from a particular hospital, then the IDF should obliterate the hospital and the tunnels underneath. Repeat for all hospitals being used to conceal Hamas assets.
It doesn’t mean Israel has to comply.
Also doesn’t mean Israel can’t send forces into the tunnels without bombing the hospitals.

Fine. Surround it. As soon as that's accomplished, begin moving all living things out of the hospital to wherever else.
Once it's emptied, stand back and bomb the area until the tunnels underneath collapse.
Israel is already hitting targets very near Shifa Hospital.

So the United States just announced to the rest of the world that hates our guts, that all they have to do is put vital military installations underneath hospitals, schools, and other sites where innocent civilians are, and those critical installations will be immune from US attack.
Aside from the fact that this is not in accordance with long-standing international law, it is the height of stupidity. You never take anything off the table. You always leave your enemy, wondering what you might do to him. The illusion of protecting innocent lives is only one in the short term. What it does, is, it tells very bad actors, like Hamas, and every terrorist organization in the world, what they need to do in order to endanger, innocent civilians on OUR side.
Frankly, what Israel needs to do is to capture Shifa hospital, film the extremely humane removal of every human being from that hospital, and then to detonate the entire structure and everything within 200 feet of the surface that is underneath the hospital. Just leave a big, smoldering, crater where the hospital used to be.
Oh, and before I forget: FJB!
I am not sure how they will do it, but I would bet Israel will take out the tunnels and other stuff under the hospital.
All ready in the process of surrounding it. Lots of fighting near the hospital. Dawn is breaking and the gunfire has been extensive since about 1 am. You can watch the war live on YouTube. Some pundit mentioned countries are sending hospital ships. The IDF has, as reported, destroyed the tunnels to the South of Gaza City and the North is cut off from resupply. If true Israel can pause to move wounded and ill to hospital ships. Some patients were already sent to Egypt. By pause I mean hours not days. It appears however the Israeli military has not been sitting around playing Mattel’s Swap your Gender game like we have. Since 2014, they have been preparing to fight in the Gaza tunnels.
