U.S. Army says it needs $3 billion for artillery rounds and production

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Army needs Congress to approve $3.1 billion to buy 155 millimeter artillery rounds and expand production to quickly replace stocks depleted by shipments to Ukraine and now Israel, an Army official said on Tuesday.

The U.S. and allies have sent more than 2 million rounds of 155 ammunition to Ukraine in support of its effort to repel Russia’s invasion more than 600 days ago. The U.S. has also sent the artillery to Israel as it fights Hamas.

No one in the deep-state or even the Pentagon bureaucracy seemed to think wars would ever be fought again with artillery shells

Of course they do. Turtle McConnell is addled enough that he told the truth... Ukraine is about refreshing inventory, (and making money for the military/industrial complex).

Take it out of the IRS budget. They don’t need weapons anyway.

How about No and we stop giving our arsenal to losing ventures like Ukraine which isn’t our problem.

Wait a second here...the shells that were sent to Ukraine were going to be replaced anyway and the money for those replacements was already allocated.

I support Ukraine but I do not support what even to me looks like money laundering!

How much is being spent on CRT and Woke programs? Troops cannot be sent to combat areas without woke training and CRT programs.

The last National Defense Authorization Bill should have already inlcuded sums needed for replacement of munitions being used and munitions being given to allies, instead of a separate addtional bill for those things. Yes, doing so would have meant something else in Biden’s wish list would have to be given up, and THAT is why the need was not recognized in the last NDA.

Munitions stocks running low.

By the same people who drew down the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to dangerously low levels.

Ukraine should pay us for the weapons we’ve given them with the money we’ve given them.

I think your actually asking the right question. The money was already allocated to build more 155 shells and replace inventory. The only things that could be going on here is that: The Army realizes they don’t have enough shells in storage, or capability to make enough fast enough OR it’s a a cover up for the money going to something else.

There would be such a need if we hated wasted so much on the failed proxy war in Ukraine.

But, the defense industry is booming and the stocks politicians hold in defense companies is going up!
