Turkish police used tear gas and water cannon as hundreds of people at a pro-Palestinian rally on Sunday tried to storm an air base that houses U.S. troops, hours before U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was due in Ankara for talks on Gaza.
Turkey, which has stepped up its criticism of Israel as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has worsened, supports a two-state solution while hosting members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Since the Israel-Hamas war started, protests have erupted across the country.
Earlier this week, the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, an Islamist Turkish aid agency, organised a convoy to travel to the Incirlik air base in the Adana province in southern Turkey to protest Israeli attacks on Gaza and U.S. support for Israel.
Incirlik, which has been used to support the international coalition fighting Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, also houses U.S. troops. IHH's protest called for Incirlik to be closed.

Turkish security forces disperse an angry crowd outside the U.S. military base Incirlik in Adana

Turkish intelligence agency MIT engaged a jihadist charity organization to orchestrate a nationwide march targeting a military base in the southeastern province of Adana that hosts US Air Force personnel. This move was part of a strategy to create leverage for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government in talks with the US, according to information obtained by Nordic Monitor.
The march, coordinated by the Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (İnsan Hak ve Hürriyetleri ve İnsani Yardım Vakfı, or IHH), is called the “Freedom Convoy for Palestine.” The organizers seemed to aim at capitalizing on the increasing anti-Israeli sentiment in Turkey to rally large crowds, with the intention of exerting pressure on the US government and potentially furnishing President Erdogan with leverage in discussions unrelated to events occurring in Gaza.
Incirlik Air Base has one 3,048 m (10,000 ft)-long runway, located among about 57 hardened aircraft shelters. Tactical nuclear weapons are stored at the base. Among them are “up to” 50 B61 nuclear bombs. What could possibly go wrong?
We should have removed all of them the moment Erdogen showed up on the scene.
Yes. We don’t need them there. I read this account of this organization and its “convoy” yesterday without knowing the number of vehicles or participants, and it is a paltry group, but after years of seeing things get out of hand, I don’t trust any of it to chance to “blow over”.
sounds like Turkey is about as unstable & dysfunctional as Russia
both of them have fanatical mobs attacking airports
Nothing special since Erdogan went insane.
Fanatical anti U.S. mobs are repeatedly attacking American bases all over the Mideast and you shrug it off by lamely attempting to crack wise about the 500 million America hating Muslims mobilizing against us. More of your typical foolishness.
Disgraceful, and would not be happening under Trump. I don’t know if we can make the 14 mounths. Arm up.
This is another blessing in disguise. We now can see why Turkey should be booted out of NATO immediately and all U.S. military should be removed from the country.
Turkey is no voice for peace in the world. They are just another radical Islamic country.
The nukes should have been pulled out 2 decades ago. It is insanity we still have nukes there.
We shouldn’t even be in nato.
let’s see who’s backing these mobs
and most of the fanatical anti-American Muslims get their weapons & funding from Russia
because Russia has spent years deliberately currying favor in the Middle East Arab countries
you can’t understand that?
American Citizens are being killed and kidnapped, our bases are getting overrun, ou4 White House is being attacked by mobs, or border is wide open, 😡😡. Anyone who voted for Biden should have to wear an “I’m a moron sign.”
It wasn’t that long ago when Turkey locked down Incirlik AB during a coup. Erdogan is not to be trusted as it wouldn’t surprise me if his underlings allow the gates to be stormed.
Pull our troops and our nukes out of Turkey. Their presence there has long outlived its usefulness and Turkey is definitely not an ally anymore.
This happened back in 2019. The Trump administration actually reduced the number of nuclear bombs at Incirlik to 20.

***********The number of nuclear weapons at Incirlik appear to have been reduced, however, from up to 50 to perhaps 20. If the United States decided to withdraw the remaining nuclear weapons from Incirlik, it could probably do so with a single C-17 transport aircraft from the 4th Airlift Squadron at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington — the only unit in the Air Force that is qualified to airlift nuclear weapons.*************
Do it now!
Sure I can. But it’s much worse than that! The entire Muslim World, the entirety of Global South, the left of Western Europe, 99% of the UN, are vehemently against our policy. And Putin is surfing the crest of the anti American global wave. Our bumbling, warmongering globalists in DC have made him the toast of the non woke world. Get your head out of the western media masters’ feeding trough and see what the non woke, non decadent world is saying about this.
Imagine those pesky Russians! We spend $200 Billion, supply the arms that have killed tens of thousands of Russians while pursuing our official DC policy of forced regime change in Moscow (Netanyahu, too) and now Putin won’t be friends and won’t back stab his allies to help us out! What an ingrate!
I was at Incirlik, in 1982. I felt that same way, back then. I never felt those clowns were our ally.
