Israeli officials have vowed to crush Hamas in response to its brutal terror attacks earlier this month, signaling that the way to ultimately do this is through a major ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. That's easier said than done though.
In Gaza, invading Israeli forces will face a complex and dangerous urban environment, in which Hamas' well-armed and well-prepared forces can hide, set up traps, and launch surprise assaults. And some of the most difficult fighting could be underground, in the city-like labyrinth of tunnels that are vital to the militant group's defensive and offensive operations.
Although it is unclear how the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will go about dealing with challenges posed by the tunnels, they are a known threat and one for which the IDF is not unprepared. But while the military has the means to infiltrate this network, a former US Army infantry soldier said that in any capacity, "it will increase the time to conduct an operation in Gaza."
"You can't leave a hole to your back," John Spencer, chair of urban warfare studies at West Point's Modern War Institute, told Insider. "And you can't not clear a tunnel if there's a potential for a hostage to be in there."

Kill them with robots. Female robots with hijabs that fire pork-laced bullets.
These guys always sound like they think the Israeli tacticians haven’t thought about all this all along and made plans accordingly.

They’ll quit being Muslim by choice forevermore and will cease being a problem.
They have developed a fluid emulsion that spreads widely, swells then hardens... essentially sealing the tunnel. With small drones and all the time in the world.. just starve them out... or flood and seal them in a nice tomb.
There are all kinds of sensors that can detect movement, electronics, heat and other forms of data showing activity. Everyone thinks this is like a movie or binge worthy show... a week, a month, 6 months... I think if you just start pushing water into some of the tunnels, fill in entrances and just plow up as much rubble on top of them... should about do the trick.
The real key is that EVERY single person involved in the financing, operational training, logistics, transport, propaganda, intel... should be hunted down and killed. After the first one or two dozen businessmen, bankers, lawyers, supply companies, politicians at all levels, “charities” starts showing up dead... then it’ll get froggy. Every single person that shows their face on television in this country supporting Hamas needs to be doxxed, and let the chips fall where they may...
They HATE America, Christians, Jews and non-radical Muslims... they are the cancer.
I was talking about Israeli casualties
Simple choices.
Find the tunnel entrances. Seal them with large amounts of explosives. Move on to the next one.
The hostages are mostly dead by now. There is no point in risking soldiers' lives by entering the tunnel systems for any reason.
The Israelis once released over 1200 HAMAS terrorists for one IDF hostage. It was a bad trade. Many of those HAMAS terrorists went on to become leaders in the October 7 raids. IDF will not repeat that sort of mistake. Say prayers of mourning for the hostages and move on.
Destroy all minor structures and bulldoze the rubble into clear lanes of fire or clear traffic lanes. Destroy major structures as needed to prevent enemy fighters from using them for observation posts or sniper positions.
Any non-IDF person in northern Gaza must be considered hostile and a non-uniformed combatant. Yes, that includes ten-year-old children. Treat all persons accordingly.
Enemy fire from any source must get artillery, cannon, bombs, or rocket fire in counter-response until the area is levelled. "Civilian" casualties? See the previous section about non-uniformed combatants.
If they are unarmed and headed south, let 'em go. Otherwise, they are targets. See the previous section about non-uniformed combatants.
Note that I am not an IDF commander. I do not even play one on the internet. The real commanders are far too busy to pay any attention to the likes of me and anyway they have a better understanding of what they must do in their situations.

Pump in the Mediterranean.
They had been blowing up the tunnels. There’s no need to go into them.
They’ll send in robots with cameras and belt fed 50 cals attached.
Fire hoses.
And speaking of theromobaric weapons, I was watching the live feed from Sderot overlooking Gaza and in the distance I saw what appeared to be thermobaric detonations the first of which occurred at 12:54am Israel time in case anyone's interested. The second followed a couple minutes afterward.
The detonation was a low profile and quickly outward expansion that lit up the night sky like no other typical JDAM, etc. would do. Quite stunning, especially for any Hamas RATS inside the tunnel. Fighter jets in afterburner accompanied the strikes.
i love how the WORLD media makes it sound like this is gonna be so bad...and so difficult, blah blah. Were talking taking down just one city...plus the fact these idiots are pinned against the Mediterranean Sea and have zero air cover. ....not a good place to be. So far, the IDF has only lost 2 soldiers. The only thing that can stop this operation is Israel itself backing down to the media and sympathizers. I say this could done and finished in less than a month. Really up to Israel now....i say just cut the city in half..then go block by block and just pulverize them. Make em wish their mothers had never met their fathers.
the Northern part of the city had been decimated...how are the hamas guys gonna fight in that wiped out part of the city. You gotta be able to sleep and eat. Looks to me like the IDF is gonna cut the city in half...then go block by block, in the North and just pulverize whats left. Then watch them surrender so fast....
We used flame throwers in the Pacific during WW 2. Time for them to make a comeback.
Block off or destroy every entrance they can find and start funneling them down. They’ll start running low on oxygen eventually. I promose they’re not smart enough to build pipes to allow fresh O2.
The IDF is not letting on what they are doing or what they know. Smart move.
Heat travels well through tunnels and points to vents and openings via IR sensors.
In WWII, we used flame-throwers...
Today, we have fuel injection.
